Vancouver - changing planes to ANC?

We are flying on one ticket with Air Canada- YYZ (Toronto)- YVR (Vancouver) change planes to ANC (Anchorage).

I know we will have to go through US customs/immigration in Vancouver.

Will we have to collect our luggage in Vancouver? Go to an area for connecting planes and drop off our luggage and then go to the board gate?

You should be able to check your luggage through. Yes you'll need to go through US pre-clearance, but only if there's an issue with your luggage

This guide should give you an idea of what's involved.
