mattR Posted June 24, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 24, 2016 Leaving on a cruise Jul 16/16 from Southampton to the Mediterranean. If the referendum vote is to leave the EU would that affect customs or other issues with cruises departing from Britain that quickly or at all? John Bull Posted June 24, 2016 #2 Share Posted June 24, 2016 If we vote leave (result should be known in the next few hours, currently neck-and-neck) the UK will remain in the EU for two years - that's not guesswork, it's a fact, part of the terms. So no difference for two years at least. After that I see very little difference for travellers, other than "usual" duty-free allowances will replace the more generous allowances between EU countries. And like Gib, the Channel Islands, Tunisia, Turkey, etc, because of the port being outside the EU you won't have VAT tax added to on-board spend if all other ports are in the EU. All very close at the moment, all very tense - now my other half knows what it's like waiting to see the soccer results :D JB :)
SellaVee Posted June 24, 2016 #3 Share Posted June 24, 2016 Yep, dsrdsrdsr, that's the bounce effect. I'm hoping things will have settled by the time I'm buying Dollars and Euros for my summer cruise!
