Mountain Gal Posted February 9, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 9, 2006 Which would be the best way to go from Seward to Anchorage, by car or by train? I'm sure there are advantages to both. Anyone have any input? Please.
elleluv Posted February 9, 2006 #2 Share Posted February 9, 2006 We haven't done the train yet... our first time will be in June. We have done the drive many times though in our RV. It is an absolutely beautiful trip! One of our favorites! While driving, there are several areas where you can pull over and take your time looking around. That won't be an option in the train. If you go by car, the person driving can't enjoy the scenery, which is one of the big reason we're going by train. We're also traveling with my folks and my DD wants to have the option to get up, stretch and walk around a bit on the train.
GlacierLady Posted February 9, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 9, 2006 The train is an awesome ride that I try to take atleast once every summer. It will stop if wildlife is spotted and you actually have a much better chance than by driving, usually narration too. :)
redbeulah Posted February 9, 2006 #4 Share Posted February 9, 2006 How far is the drive from Anchorage to Seaward? And if you take the roundtrip by train, how long does it take...Anyone know the cost? Thanks bunches!
Budget Queen Posted February 9, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 9, 2006 Both have advantages, the car gives you all the freedom for the many possible stops along the way. 125 miles Anchorage/Seward. Allow 3 hours. The train is over 4 hours, but superior scenery compared to the highway. I do not recommend this as a day trip, overnight in Seward. Cost is $62 one way.
