FloridaPhil Posted March 9, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 9, 2015 (edited) I just thought I'd throw this out here because I can't believe the crappy response I just got from RCCL. My wife-to-be and I would like to get married on board. Nothing fancy, in fact, far from it. All we want is a notary, in our suite, in Key-West. It's not our first time around the block, and having been with each other for many years, the ceremony would be a simple commitment between us. No guests, no large bouquets, no special venue requirements, no cake, no fancy anything. Just us and a notary for 10 minutes, in our suite. RCCL's response? The packages start at $3,100 take it or leave it. Gee, thanks Anja for your 'assistance'. I guess it's nothing. Way to go at helping loyal customers have a day to remember. How hard would it have been? Edited March 9, 2015 by FloridaPhil
dbrown13 Posted March 10, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 10, 2015 Wow that's really disappointing :( I always found the RCCL folks to be helpful and happy! We're doing our wedding next April with Carnival - it's our second marriage and we didn't want to spend a ton and their prices were the best. Just according to their advertised packages - For less than half as much you could do a small ceremony on Carnival... still including a cake and flowers and other items. It includes more than you're asking for but its much more affordable. And maybe Carnival offers even simpler packages if you ask. The small package is $1355 and includes up to 6 other guests so you could even have another couple join you if you wanted. It sure seems like they could offer up an officiant for a couple hundred bucks! • Personal Wedding Planner to guide you prior to your wedding day • Priority VIP check-in and boarding for the bride, groom and guests* • Secluded waiting area at check-in* • Private wedding ceremony location • Ceremony performed by a wedding officiant (non-denominational official/minister or notary public) • Assistance by a wedding coordinator to escort wedding couple to their stateroom upon clearance and oversee guest needs during their wedding ceremony • A beautiful setting – aisle runner, columns and silk floral arrangements • Recorded ceremony music • Bridal bouquet (8 ivory roses hand-tied) and matching Groom’s Boutonniere* • Tiered wedding cake and keepsake cake topper • Cake cutting service and champagne toast with keepsake etched Carnival champagne flutes for the bride & groom • Photography service at the ceremony and reception** • A bottle of sparkling wine and chocolate-dipped strawberries for the bride & groom’s stateroom after the celebration I hope things work out and you can figure out a way to do your ceremony! How hard would it have been? I am going to suggest that you join the roll call for your sailing. You may find someone who is a notary who would be willing to do that service for you. You might then ask for like an anniversary celebration cake or something similar-just to say you are celebrating a special occasion on board. It sounds like you are not wanting a whole lot of fuss. I am a notary for South Carolina and probably not on your sailing. But that is something I would be willing to do for a couple if they were not up for doing a whole huge package. Just a thought. legaljen1969 Posted April 17, 2015 #4 Share Posted April 17, 2015 Just looked at the Romance Packages section in Gifts & Gear. The following items are offered! Now if you can just someone to be your notary, you can have all the celebration you need. It may be different on different ships, but this is under the Gifts & Gear for Freedom. I have a cruise booked 4/26/15. Anyhow, FWIW- here are some options. Sounds like you can have what you want, but just need a notary to sign the papers. If you wanted to get married off the ship, you could probably search the Florida Secretary of State website and find a list of notaries in Key West that you could contact about their services. Classic Romance Package $100.00 USD Item# 1060 Make a romantic gesture that's sure to impress, featuring a delicious assortment of treats and delights. Package contains vanilla cupcakes, a bottle of bubbly in your stateroom upon arrival, a tray of elegant canapés in your stateroom before dinner on a formal night, petit fours after the meal, breakfast in bed and an 8” x 10” framed keepsake portrait. Decadent Romance Package $205.00 USD Item# 1096 Package contains Moet & Chandon Champagne, Chocolate Covered Strawberries, Truffles and Muse-Dozen Long Stemmed Roses. Ultimate Luxury Romance Package $320.00 USD Item# 1095 Package contains Moet & Chandon Champagne, Chocolate Covered Strawberries, Truffles, Muse-Dozen Long Stemmed Roses, Luxury Robes and Slippers for both. Just Married Room Decor Deluxe Package $75.00 USD Item# 2109 *PRE-ORDER NOW FOR SAILINGS FROM US PORTS BEGINNING MAY 15, 2015 *PRE-ORDER NOW FOR SAILINGS FROM NON-US PORTS BEGINNING MAY 30, 2015 Package includes: 1 Magnetic Door Decoration 1 Set of Pillow Cases 1 Beach Towel 1 Mirror Cling 1 Wire Photo Cable w/Clips 2 Hanging Ceiling Decor 1 Photo Frame
mrstriceasnice Posted April 17, 2015 #5 Share Posted April 17, 2015 Getting married in Key West off the ship may be your easiest bet. I have seen several who were able to accomplish this with minimum fuss. I will say my experience with florida marriage licenses from my own recent wedding, they want two witnesses. FloridaPhil Posted April 19, 2015 Author #6 Share Posted April 19, 2015 (edited) Thanks everyone for the suggestions. We decided just to get married in our own backyard on Friday and board the ship on Saturday for our honeymoon. Too many complications with arranging a notary, getting a valid wedding license and other what-if's. This way we can enjoy the ship without any stress. I guess it was just too much trouble for RCCI so we got the hint. Edited April 19, 2015 by FloridaPhil
dcdiva Posted April 20, 2015 #7 Share Posted April 20, 2015 Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I think this is a smart choice. We were married onboard an RCCL ship while in port in Key West. It was quite a few years ago, but I am sure many of the hurdles are the same. We had a big group, so the it made financial sense to book everything through the cruise line. But if we did it ourselves, we would have needed a license, obtained in advance from Dade County (not so easy from our home near Washington, DC). The bigger hurdle was the officiant, who needed not only to be licensed in Florida, but needed advance clearance from TSA and the cruise line to board the ship in Key West. If it had been just the two of us, jumping through all the hoops would have been very frustrating. Your plan sounds much better. Best of luck!
