TAYLORCPA Posted October 9, 2015 #1 Share Posted October 9, 2015 We are considering renting a car to go to Gold Rock beach and Lucayan park. Is this a good idea? Will we safe? Any advice? Thanks!
zubee23 Posted October 10, 2015 #2 Share Posted October 10, 2015 Does your cruise offer this as a shore excursion? NCL offers it for $46 pp. - more than worth it IMHO. It's quite a drive from the port to Gold Rock Beach - it's across the street from the Lucayan National Park. NCL's excursion also stops at Banana Bay where you buy your own lunch. It's a pretty spot right on the beach.
TAYLORCPA Posted October 11, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted October 11, 2015 We have 2 kids age 8&7 and I would rather be able to go on our own. But if it's not safe then it's not worth it.
zubee23 Posted October 11, 2015 #4 Share Posted October 11, 2015 Are you comfortable driving on the other side of the road? That's the safety issue for me.
lhesson Posted October 11, 2015 #5 Share Posted October 11, 2015 The safety issue for me is how crazy they drive in the Bahamas...if you have never been, it is as bad or worse than some of the ports in Mexico. I wouldn't want to be responsible for a vehicle. I would take a taxi if I didn't want an excursion. If the price they give you seems too high, try to talk them down. They are usually negotiable because most of them work for themselves.
mawvkysc Posted October 12, 2015 #6 Share Posted October 12, 2015 Traffic on Grand Bahama is not the same as traffic in Nassau.

zubee23 Posted October 12, 2015 #8 Share Posted October 12, 2015 Better on Grand Bahama. Once you're out of Freeport proper the rest of the trip is pretty much one long road to the National Park and Gold Rock Beach. Do you have a full day at Freeport? TAYLORCPA Posted October 12, 2015 Author #9 Share Posted October 12, 2015 We are there from 8-5. I thought we would start heading back to the port about 2 so that we would have plenty of time.
