Los Angeles hotel/tour suggestions

Recommended Posts

My wife and I are on the Coral Princess this fall on a coastal cruise. We'll be getting into Los Angeles on Satruday, September 24 at 7am; not sure how long it will take to clear customs and disembark. I was originally thinking of doing the hop on-hop off shuttles, and had gotten some suggestions for hotels around the Santa Monica Pier (we have an 8am flight on Sunday). My wife is a big baseball fan and I saw the Dodgers are playing in town that Saturday; when I mentioned it to her, she was interested in seeing the game Saturday night. Does anyone have recommendations of tour companies that would pick us/luggage up at the pier for a highlight tour of LA and drop off at a hotel in the afternoon with enough time to catch a cab/Uber/etc to the ballpark? Any suggestions on hotels for such a set-up?

Thanks,

Los Angeles is very spread out. Decide exactly what you want to see. Allow an hour between the tourist sights, Santa Monica, port and Chavez Ravine. Should take less time but the freeways have been worse in the off hours recently.

Sunseeker tours might be able to do something for you.

The West Coast departure board has lots of hotel suggestions.

An idea......

Check into your hotel, then take the Metro to Union Station, catching the Dodger Express to the stadium. Explore the area around union Statuon beforehand. Lots of historical things in this area: Olvera Street, ChinaTown, Phillipe's, the Plaza Church (a CA Mission), first firehouse.

metro.net (Expo Line station near the Santa Monica Pier; Expo line-transfer to the Red Line at 7th Street to Union Station.

After the game either arrange transportation from the stadium or Union Station. Can catch a taxi, Uber, Lyft .

As SadieN said, there is a lot to do in downtown LA. Other interesting things right downtown include Grand Central Market, Bradbury Building, Central Library, Angel Flight.

The Dodger game that night is at 6:10pm. If I really wanted to center my activities around going to that game, I would probably stay downtown and follow the transportation options stated by SadieN. It is a quick Uber trip to LAX from downtown on Sunday.

Would you have any hotel recommendations in that area? The one and only time we stayed in LA, I was still in grad school and we went out for the Rose Bowl on a budget. One of the highlights (if you want to put it that way) was someone being shot outside our hotel the night after the game. I'd rather avoid that if possible....

Well, I live here so I have never actually stayed at a hotel downtown. I only mention it as the best choice if you want to center your visit around the Dodger game that afternoon. In any event, these are the top rated downtown hotels in Los Angeles from Trip Advisor depending on your budget.
