johala_reewi Posted May 8, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 8, 2015 Cruise terminal: Right at the end of the docks area. There is a small marquee as the terminal building (smaller than Bilbao) which has no facilities, and the area looks like it has only just been reclaimed from the sea. There is no pedstrain access between the terminal and the dock gate. You have to use a taxi or the (pay) shuttle bus. Port security also stop you walking around to get a decent photo of the ship. MADflyer Posted May 8, 2015 #2 Share Posted May 8, 2015 Gijon is a developing cruise port. While today, passenger expectations are that every port is fully developed, this is not always the case. Gijon port is 6 Km from the city center and is without a cruise terminal. Gijon only has 8 more cruise calls this year and 14 calls booked for next year. Gijon meets EU regulations for a cruise port, but has not joined the industry organization, Cruise Europe yet. Several of the lines that visit Gijon will provide the shuttle connection, while some have a shuttle with fee arrangement with the port agent. Leeso Posted May 25, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 25, 2016 Just visited Gijon with RCI navigator. We stood in line for an hour to get on the compulsory shuttle bus into town. Another 40 mins in line at the bus stop in town to come back to the port. Then another 50 mins to get through security to board the ship. Just shows how inadequate the port is for anything other than small ships. No facilities on the dockside except 1 portaloo. The least RCI could have done was to put some staff on the dockside to serve refreshments to the waiting minions, but no, nothing. Shame on you RCI !
