Venetian Vistas Tips

Recommended Posts

what are your ports of call?

if you go to the 'ports of call' section of the cruise critic forum and scroll down to Europe and then Italy you should pick up some good advice. I say Italy because your thread title is Venetian Vistas but I don't know what other countries you might be visiting so just click on each one.

Venice is great to just walk around (even though we manage to get lost!)- but beware of street signs, they are very high up on the walls of the buildings.

Enjoy your cruise.

ps. it will be very hot in August so pace yourselves

As it is your first cruise just remember that if you go off independently the ship will not wait for you if you are late this is particularly important in Venice, if you haven't been before as the queues for returning are very long, IMO it's best to go on an organization trip until you are familiar with the system. Be up early for the cruise in, and out, it's memerable 😀

Welcome to CC and your first cruise.

With multiple ports, cruising is very different from land holidays and initially it pays to read as much as possible, especially in relation to where you are docked as the location may not always be in a town or city centre.

There is a massive amount of info on this site so worth learning how to use it.

Suggestion above, but also go to the DESTINATIONS section at the top of the CC page, select ALL DESTINATIONS from the drop down, then select each port in turn from the drop down where ports are listed alphabetically. Not every port is listed but most are.

You will then get an overview, things to do, info as to where you are docked etc.

It also helps if you learn how to use the SEARCH function on each forum. (eg France, Greece, Italy whatever) You can then search each forum with the name of the place you are visiting and all threads with that place name will appear in the results ready for you to read.

And look at the shorex. Even if you do not want to book any you will get an idea of what there is to do and see in each port which might appeal to you.
