Travelbug1978 Posted April 19, 2017 #1 Share Posted April 19, 2017 We are staying at the westin Bayshore pretty cruise. Is there a liquor store near there or within walking distance to the port. I really don't want to have to pack wine in my checked bag flying from ontario.
Rare martincath Posted April 19, 2017 #2 Share Posted April 19, 2017 Yes to both. Overshoot on the way to the ship (drop checked bags first) by just a few blocks - the BC Liquor store at the harbour centre (doors are on Cordova, opposite Waterfront station). From hotel, walk down along Cardero and there's another BC Liquor on Robson. There are also private liquor stores (pricier) on Denman.
xlxo Posted April 20, 2017 #3 Share Posted April 20, 2017 The Robson public liquor store (Alberni & Bute) is a "Signature" store that offers a bigger selection. http://www.bcliquorstores.com/store/locator/129 It also offers additional evening and weekend hours. Great place to stop by after your pre-cruise Robson street dinner to load up on supplies before the cruise.

xlxo Posted April 20, 2017 #5 Share Posted April 20, 2017 There is only one signature store in downtown Vancouver. Alberni & Bute is 1/2 block from Robson. Robson is more commonly known.

Rare martincath Posted April 20, 2017 #8 Share Posted April 20, 2017 I just need basic Moscato..We are buying lots of liquor You'll be fine in any store then - several Aussie Moscatos in the $10-12 bracket (a wee bit more than you pay in Ontario - and remember no tax included in the on-shelf pricing!) There is only one signature store in downtown Vancouver. Alberni & Bute is 1/2 block from Robson. Robson is more commonly known. And the confusion that results when referring to the Alberni & Bute store as 'Robson', when there actually is a different BCL store on Robson, is exactly why us locals don't ever call that store 'Robson.' It's not visible from Robson and is entered from Alberni, so you have to walk a block up Bute AND then partway down the Alberni block - it may be the short end of a rectangular block, sometimes referred to locally as a 'short block,' but if it was half a block away it would be in the nameless alley between Robson and Alberni. And I must offer an apology to xlxo - just swung by this store last night and there is an entrance on Bute. I'd forgotten JJ Bean doesn't actually extend all the way across that end of the building. It's even temporarily visible from Robson - if you stand just the right spot right on the northwest corner of Robson & Bute and peer between trees, the one out front that blocks the door is still leafless right now so a partially-obscured view of the BC Liquor logo is currently visible. It's still the other side of the alley and not called Robson, but arguably the door is nearer the alley than the corner so could round down the 'half a block.' xlxo Posted April 23, 2017 #11 Share Posted April 23, 2017 No apology necessary.... When I see Robson.... I was thinking the "neighborhood" and not the street that is a 1/2 block away.
