I don't know about taxis, but you can take the bus from Sorrento to Positano/Amalfi. The bus stop is right outside the train station in Sorrento. The road to Amalfi is very congested, but the buses have the right of way.

We went all the way to Amalfi on the bus and took the ferry back. Wonderful views from both the road and the water.

Hydrocraft, or slower ferry, across Bay of Naples is cheaper & more pleasant than taxi, hydrofoil quicker than taxi. Ferry options for the Amalfi coast too. Mebbe bus Sorrento to Positano, ferry to Amalfi, bus to Ravello, taxi back to Sorrento or on to Pompeii then train or taxi or bus back to Naples. You could also throw the lofty isle of Capri into the mix. Stacks of viable options & combinations, a mix of transportation is usually a more interesting day.
