Can' t speak for Ponta Delgada but in the Spanish destinations just go into the nearest bar to the port gates - they are virtually guaranteed to offer free WiFi (if you have a drink) as they cater for cruise ship crew members who want to contact their families.

In Alicante, just after you leave the port area, there is a large hotel on the right hand side called Melia Alicante. They have WiFi in the bar and other public areas.

Ponta, Walk across the street from terminal. Look for blue/white large shopping center. All inside is wifi. The password is written on walls.
