tourismtessy Posted September 13, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 13, 2016 We will be docking at Nawiliwili in Kauai for the day and wonder if there is a beach within walking distance of the port. The ships excursions don't include a beach day and we would like to spend the day at a nice beach. If there is not a beach within walking distance, how far by cab to closest beach? Thanks for your help!
PNW Traveler Posted September 14, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 14, 2016 Kalapaki Beach Park is a local beach within walking distance of Nawiliwili. There are restaurants and an ABC store nearby. There is also a nearby Marriott that may offer day passes if you want a beach resort experience. We have stayed at the rather funky 50's style Garden Island Inn across the street from Kalapaki Beach. It's a nice area and has a local island style ambiance.
trvl_fanatic Posted September 15, 2016 #3 Share Posted September 15, 2016 We have stayed at the marriott that is near nawilili (I believe it was less than a mile away??). We were able to see the ship arriving & departing from out hotel balcony. The beach in front of the hotel is open to the public. There is a small strip mall along the way with restaurants & an ABC store. Also there is a Dukes resturant by the beach as well. Enjoy! Thanks for your help! You can walk to the Kalapaki beach mentioned or jump on a free shuttle (the ones going to anchor mall or harbor mall). If you take the shuttle, look for the little bridge (or see if you can see the sign for Dukes). We went to this beach on two of our three Hawaiian cruises. We are planning on spending some time there when we cruise in October and trying to do some planning. Thanks for any help you can give me! :)
