FLsunshinegal Posted September 16, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 16, 2016 Someone on our Baltic cruise thought that Celebrity put kettles into the cabins for trips leaving from and returning to the UK. I didn't think that they did due to the fire hazard, but thought I'd ask here to get the definitive answer. Thanks.
AmberCascades Posted September 16, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 16, 2016 There was one in our cabin on the Eclipse last summer, leaving out of Southampton. I haven't seen them on ships leaving out of North America.

jocap Posted September 19, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 19, 2016 (edited) RCI/Celebrity provide kettles, mugs, tea bags etc on ships leaving the UK. I believe they're removed when sailing back across the Atlantic. I don't think kettles are a fire hazard so much, because they probably use the European socket. I've only been on RCI, but their kettles were "plumbed " into the socket- you couldn't remove them- so they would be thoroughly checked. The majority of UK managed ships provide their own kettles in each cabin, so it was a good idea for these two lines to do the same, as that's what Brits expect! John Bull Posted September 20, 2016 #6 Share Posted September 20, 2016 (edited) Most kettles aren't a fire risk - but some models draw current that's too high for cabin wiring, and kettles brought aboard would also need to be checked for defects that could cause a fire. Ditto flat irons. Hence you can't take your own kettles aboard, but cruise lines are confident with theirs. As Jo's post, RCI/Celebrity know that we Brits like our morning cuppa & provide kettles & tea makings on cruises out of the UK. :) But they seem to think we only drink tea. I don't recall Celebrity, but certainly RCI don't provide coffee in their cabins. So take a jar of your favourite instant ;) JB :) Edited September 20, 2016 by John Bull
