Kim Posted November 21, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 21, 2015 Can anyone please tell me how far Emerald Beach is from the Havensight pier? What would the taxi cost approx?
blue_water Posted November 22, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 22, 2015 (edited) Lindbergh Bay is to the west of Charlotte Amalie, probably a 20 min ride with traffic. The fare from the Best Western Emerald Beach resort to CA is $6pp for 2 or more people so guessing ~$8- 9pp from WICO... http://www.virginislandsthisweek.com/st-thomas/maps/st-thomas-island-road-map.html Edited November 22, 2015 by blue_water
Rare Hlitner Posted November 22, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 22, 2015 We have a basic rule when it comes to St Thomas. Stay on the same side of Charlotte Amalie as the ship. So if we are docked at Crown Bay we usually head over to nearby Emerald Beach (we have actually walked from the port...but do not recommend it because there are no sidewalks on the narrow road). But if we are docked at Havensight then we might go to nearby Morningstar...which is a similar kind of beach to Emerald. Our reasoning is that we have no desire to deal with the traffic in town. In fact, if we are on the same side of town as the ship we have little concern about getting back to the ship on time. Having been stuck in an hour-long traffic jam in Charlotte Amalie this is not our idea of fun. We have also spent a lot of time out at Sapphire Beach....but only if docked at Havensight :) Our problem with Sapphire is that the it all went downhill after the resort went bankrupt...and the facilities became neglected and/or non-existent. Not sure of the current status....but have heard rumors it is somewhat improved. Hank

And Morningstar is a fine beach choice if time is limited. But for a beach day we'd choose Lindbergh Bay (aka Emerald Beach) over Morningstar even though LB is located on the other side of CA. Yes there is traffic along the waterfront in town, but nothing to prevent one going to LB. as far as getting back to the ship on time it's a good idea to allow an "extra" hour to allow for traffic or other delay. Hank Sapphire is fine, the restaurants has been closed for some years but that just impacts condo owners and renters. Gorgeous beach and island views, and there are great options for food and drinks along with a dive center. Nothing has gone "downhill", in fact the condo exterior are all being renovated. We rent there and enjoy beautiful condos and beachfront living. Sapphire would always be our first choice, but LB is a nice day too with more a of a hotel experience with the BW.
