Celebrity in San Juan

Hello,

I'm confused about which pier the Celebrity ships, specifically the Summit, embarks from. My understand so far is there seems to be 2 different piers----one that Celebrity ships embark from and one that is a port of call (during a cruise). I've heard about the Pan American pier----is this the one the ship embarks from?

And could someone tell me which area of San Juan this pier is in? We are looking to book a hotel before our cruise and I don't know which location is best.

Thanks for clearing this up for me!

The Summit sails from the Pan American pier, which is at the eastern far end of San Juan harbor, in the Isla Grande airport/Convention Center District. This is a five to ten minute drive from Old San Juan.

The Convention Center District is under development, but there are already a couple of nice hotels in the area. Like the Sheraton Convention center and the Hyatt Place. Be advised that there is not much to do immediately around this area, and it is a little tricky to walk from there across the highway into the Condado tourist area.

Thanks Aviator.

Is this Sheraton the Sheraton Hotel and Casino? And the Hyatt that you mention---is this the Hyatt House?

I'm trying to figure out which area to use on Trip Advisor to book a hotel and it's only giving me choices of City Center, Old San Juan, Near Casa Bacardi , Near San Cristobal and Near the San Juan National Historical Site. Does anyone know if the Pan American Pier is near any of these?

Thanks!

The Sheraton is the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel and Casino. It looked very nice when I went by it on the bus at the end of October. There didn't seem to be too much around there.

The Sheraton near the other pier in Old San Juan is the Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel and Casino. This is not at the pier the Summit leaves from but it is in a good location for touring and restaurants. You will need to take a taxi from either hotel, so the choice is up to you. If you come in early for your cruise, I would chose Old San Juan.
