Car rental

My family and I are on the AOS later this summer and my 89 year old mother is on the cruise with us. She has some mobility issues, mostly bad arthritic knees. I was wondering if anyone has ever rented a car and just driven around the island on their own? I was thinking of an island tour and then getting a day pass for one of the resorts. This way mom could sit by the pool under an umbrella while we spend time on the beach..as mom can't walk in the sand.

Any suggestions on car rentals(located in close proximity to the dock) and day pass resorts.

Thanks

Lisa, since Occidental is being sold, have you heard if they will continue issuing day passes?

Where did you hear this and when is it forecast to take place? Is it changing to another chain? Thanks.

Barcelo is buying out Occidental. They offer a more upscale hotel experience. I haven't heard when this will take place.
