Croatian Coast: Tops Rating for 2017!

Recommended Posts

From the Conde Nast Traveler magazine earlier this month, they have this headline: "Best Places to Travel in 2017" with these very positive highlights/ideas about the Croatian Coast: "Having celebrated 25 years of independence in 2016, Croatia is seeing a major uptick in tourism (thanks, in part, to Game of Thrones). Destinations like Hvar and Dubrovnik are already on travelers’ radars, so now we’re telling people to branch out to one of the country’s many islands and remote fishing villages. A three-hour ferry ride from Split is Vis, a small, mountainous island best explored by scooter, where you’ll find fresh seafood, tranquil coves, and zero crowds; but you can also hop on a different ferry and head to Korcula Island instead. Its wine trails have grown in popularity; we can't get enough of the dry white wine. Try to pack in Istria, too: Not too far from Trieste in Italy, it is known for both its fine food and first-century Roman amphitheater. And back near Split, Brad Pitt will soon open a luxury resort in Zablace, promising (or threatening?) to transform the small town’s beach into a hive of activity."

Any folks been to these suggested areas? Share more!! As noted below, we super enjoyed Dubrovnik and hope to get back to these scenic, interesting and historic areas. Lots of good reasons to head back to this part of the wonderful world.

Happy Holidays Terry!

Loved our visit in September to Dubrovnik. We walked the ancient city walls twice!

Would love to return to some of the smaller villages. Kotor was incredible as well.

Always enjoy your photos and commentary. You really should be a professional travel blogger.

Hope you have some spectacular travel plans set for 2017.

I had a land holiday a few years ago in Tucepi, a small resort on the Dalmatian coast. The next resort along is Makarska where we took a ferry to Hvar.

I would like to return and visit Trogir which is near to Split.

Having said that, a few years later we visited Montenegro for a week and stayed in Kotor which we loved. The scenery is more spectacular than Croatia.

Then, just over a year ago we spent a week at Lake Bledin Slovenia which is stunning. Slovenia is less spoilt than Croatia and much cheaper.

In all the entire Balkancoast you will find great scenery. Well worth a visit.

We did a Croatia coastal tour from Italy. Took a ferry from Ancona to Split. From there we worked our way down the coast to Dubrovnic on Jadrolinija ferries. Then back to Bari, Italy. It was very pleasant especially since we did not have a set scheduled. Just stopped where we wanted for as long as we wanted.

Highly recommend it.
