It's nowhere near the port. It's well north of Fort Lauderdale. It'd be a hike to the pier.

The area is fine, although it is mostly business parks and executive offices, thus the hotel is marketed more to business travelers.

There is a nice movie theater and there are a number of restaurants nearby:

Longhorn Steakhouse

Champp's Sports Bar/Grill

Hooters

Chipotle

... and some fast food options

Shopping there is mostly strip malls, with stores like AT&T, GNC, Office Depot, etc, but if you're looking for clothing, you would go a bit further east of I-95 to find stores like Marshall's, Ross, TJMaxx, Target, etc.. There are some located in Pompano Beach and Fort Lauderdale. There is also Galleria Mall in Fort Lauderdale and Sawgrass Mall in Sunrise if you're looking for a grander shopping experience.

It's a nice hotel, a little dated but it will have everything you need. You will be fine for one night. enjoy!! just a 10 mile drive to the port.
