Mardi Gras In Galveston

We are booked on the Freedom out of Galveston on Feb18 2017. I just got on the Galveston city webpage and noticed that the Mardi Gras celebration in Galveston for 2017 is from Feb 17-28. Does any know if this will have any affect on traffic around the port area? We sailed from NOLA this last February (Jan31-Feb7) and were impacted some getting to the terminal due to Mardis Gras parade preparation. Hopefully the Galveston parades and such will be on the other side of the island.....

There will be a lot of extra traffic but you can avoid 99% of it by taking the Harborside drive exit as soon as you go over the causeway. If you decide to take Broadway and go through the Strand area it'll be very busy. Also buy your parking ASAP, those lots fill up quick during Mardi Gras.
