Coaster in San Diego?

I was asking about this a while back, but failed to ask if we take the coaster up the coast do you actually see any of the coast or is it to far inland? From a map I looked at it looks like you just go past/along roads.

Mostly you are along roads with occasional glispses of the ocean. Going past Del Mar is one exception. It is a commuter train, not really a sightseeing train. If I wanted to see the coast north of San Diego (the train only goes as far as Oceanside), I would rent a car instead.

Thanks Splinter that is what I thought we would see. I guess we will scratch that idea unless we decide to rent a car. There is so much to do I'm sure what we do decide we will not be dissapointed.
