timmo44 Posted September 28, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 28, 2014 Just did a lap of the Waterfront on the Breakaway using a GPS walking app. It comes in at 430 yards. So 4 laps would be a fraction under a mile. (1 mile = 1760 yards) 4 laps of the Waterfront is 1720 yards. I hope someone finds this useful as the walking track up the top is a bit congested usually. Ilovesailing Posted September 28, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 28, 2014 Somewhere posted on a wall on the track deck will be sign stating what the distance is. Just came off the Jewel and saw it posted.
triptolemus Posted September 28, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 28, 2014 Somewhere posted on a wall on the track deck will be sign stating what the distance is. Just came off the Jewel and saw it posted. On Breakaway, the walking track is not located on the waterfront walkway, which is what the OP posted about. On the Jewel, the walking track is the promenade on deck 7. On BA/GA, the walking track is up on the pool deck, where, indeed, signage indicates the length. timmo44 Posted September 29, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted September 29, 2014 Yes, the official walking/running track is extremely busy with people just wandering about and going to or from the many attractions up there including the very popular Uptown Grill. The Waterfront is wider and much much straighter but is not measured (until now that is!)

Vyhanek Posted September 29, 2014 #7 Share Posted September 29, 2014 Very good to know! Thank you. I am disgusted by what NCL calls a walking/jogging track. I find it unsafe to have people running on the pool deck with other passengers adjusting their lounge chairs and relaxing. NCL made some very bad design decisions at the expense of a proper walking/jogging track on the newer ships. I know some people are perfectly happy to run/walk on a treadmill but that's what I do all winter. If I'm able to get out in the sunshine I want a proper place to walk/jog. With the size of these ships, compromising on that and forcing the runners to run on the pool deck is unacceptable. Almost as bad as removing the laundry facilities! DH and I are runners and neither of us braved the Breakaway "running track". It was dangerous to run on with all the other people jutting in and out, plus with all the turns my hips and feet would have been a mess after a few kms. Can't wait to get on the Gem and it's proper running track this December when I'm wanting warm running weather again... Hodad1 Posted September 30, 2014 #10 Share Posted September 30, 2014 The outdoor walkway on deck 7 of BA deserves mention. It is shorter than the Waterfront (it does not wrap around the aft) and you get real familiar with the lifeboats. But it is not nearly as crowded and there are no windbreak obstacles. Even better . . . No (ok a whole lot fewer) smokers. I paced it at about 410 yards. So if you lap the Waterfront and deck7 and then reverse each, you are at about 7 1/2 furlongs. When I was on BA the casino smoke never really bothered me but the Waterfront smoke was noticeable and at times annoying if you were doing laps. Yes, you'll get a workout walking between your suite and the Haven :). Enjoy it, we were in one earlier this year and have fond memories, especially of that balcony! Yes, the Waterfront area may be wider and much straighter, but it is also full of people just wandering about, relaxing in the covered seating areas, enjoying a drink, having dinner, and just generally enjoying the peace and quiet the area was designed for. Also, it does not make a complete loop of the area, but dead ends forward, so a runner would have stop and change directon on each side of the ship. I understand your frustration with the running track, but as someone who loves the Waterfront area, I would not be thrilled to see a bunch of joggers descend on it. This space is not intended for walking/jogging. Perhaps someone could measure the distance around the MDR.
LrgPizza Posted September 30, 2014 #15 Share Posted September 30, 2014 The dailies post hours the walking/jogging track is open, which is usually in the early morning. My husband ran 90 minutes each morning of our cruise, and never had trouble with crowds, because he wasn't trying to do it when people were hanging in lounge chairs and such. Sure, there were other people there, and occasionally an unknowing person wandering in his way, but no big deal. I did see people around 10 and 11am trying to jog, and looking irritated with other passengers. It was their own fault for not following the dailies.
