Travel Guard Gold

My husband (76)and I (63) always take Travel Guard Gold when travelling. We have no pre-existing conditions but still take it out within the 14 days of leaving the deposit. We live in NYC. I worry about the Evacuation part that is included. Has anyone used the Medical Evacuation in Travel Guard Gold? NYC are excluded from being taken to a hospital in the NYC area. Should we take the AARP Medjet and the regular cruise line insurances next time. I have 2 cruises booked for this year and have already taken out Travel Guard Gold. Should I add AARP Medjet to my upcoming cruises?

Why don't you call Steve (the famous "Steve", who has been SO helpful to us in choice of insurance, and once with a claim we thought wasn't "claimable") at

http://www.TripInsuranceStore.com

He can help explain how MedJetAssist would add to the coverage you have.

Perhaps he'll also help you with a different general travel insurance plan, now or in the future.

You can get that AARP discount for MedJetAssist with Steve - just mention it to him.

BTW, I don't know what you mean by "NYC are excluded from being taken to a hospital in the NYC area."

But with MedJetAssist, assuming you are admitted as an inpatient at least 150 miles from home, they WILL take you to the hospital of your choice (at home, or even a specialty hospital elsewhere).

We would definitely want to be brought back to our big-city teaching hospital/medical center, where all of our records are, and we know some of the physicians/specialists already.

And WE want to be the ones to decide to be medevac'd home, not depending upon beancounters, etc.!

I agree with GeezerCouple. We too have used Steve's group for advice and has given us options appropriate to our situation. If unavailable, his staff are equally accommodating and competent. It would also be nice to have MedjetAssist coverage as it also covers multiple land trips beyond distance limits.

Yes, it's often forgotten that the annual MedJetAssist plan would also kick in if someone was admitted as an inpatient at least 150 miles from home, during a business trip, a visit with friends and relatives, a weekend getaway, etc.

Because we take quite a few business trips throughout the USA and Canada, and all of them are more than 150 miles from home, we, too, sometimes forget that we've got this coverage all the time...

And as for Steve, we spoke with him last night.

The trip we wanted to insure was much less expensive than our usual big ticket pre-retirement trips, so I asked if there was any less expensive policy that might work.

He asked a few key questions, including something specific about the airfare (and I had to double check with DH about that).

He was trying to save us a modest amount, but figuring the costs for a few different policies.

It turned out that that our "regular" policy with Travel Insured was still the best for our needs, but it was really great that he was still checking further for us.

AND... he asks very specific questions when he hears someone mention something that might make a difference, so be as thorough as possible about your travel plans and insurance needs.

Thank you. How far in advance do you have to purchase medjet assist for a trip?

Please ask Steve about this (or some professional).

You don't want to get these deadlines wrong, if they exist.

You'll also want to decide if you want a "one trip" policy, or the annual policy.

They have some "extra" types of coverage, but we just have the regular.
