I celebrated my birthday onboard and they will bring a birthday cake to the table. You just need to make these arrangement on your cruise personalizer. They usually have the decoration room package in the personalizer too. It's fun to have the decorations on the door and cabin.

Depending on the cruise line sometimes they will host a small party for him in the kid club.

Other ideas(depending on age and personality)

-decorate cabin door

-give him a shirt or crown to wear that say "It's my # birthday"

-Put a giant card on the cabin door for others to sign

-Have them bring a cake and sing at the table

Exciting for all of you, have fun :)

NCL sent a very special cupcake to our room for our daughter. They also gave as a celebration card to take to the dining room for any night we wanted. In the dining room they brought her a cake, and whole bunch of staff sang her happy birthday and made it very special for her. She turned 6 on the cruise.

On my niece's birthday we put together t-shirts for all of us (her's was "it's my birthday", ours were each personalized to "it's my niece's birthday" or cousin or daughter or whatever) They were all acid green (her favorite color) -- she's the type of kid who LOVES being the center of attention so it was great!

Our daughter's birthday will be during the cruise and her daughter's 1st birthday a few days after. I made a t shirt for our granddaughter that says 'It's My 1st Birthday'. I've got a crown for my daughter to wear. (We'll see). I also ordered decorations for the room plus I'm bringing extras. I've ordered a cake for each one of them too.

Plus we are babysitting so daughter and husband can have a nice evening.
