Barcelona Taxis - 2016

Can the fare still be metered (airport to the cruise terminal) or do you have to pay the flat rate of 39 euros in 2016 for the black and yellow taxis? We did ask for it to be metered.

We have used taxis for this journey before and paid the metered fare which is only around 22 euros + supplements.

The reason I ask is that when we used the service in July for our recent cruise, the taxi driver insisted we pay 39 euros when the meter stated 23.70 on tariff 1. We only had 2 cases, 2 passengers, so the fare with supplements should have been around 30 euros max.

The barcelona taxi fare calculator at this website has the price at 39 euro, which I believe is the set price from the airport to the cruise port. Both have supplements.

The fare just to sit in a taxi is 2.10 to 2.30 euro.

The supplement for the airport is 3.10 euro.

The supplement for the port is 3.10 euro.

The supplement for each large bag is 1.00 euro *carry-on /personal item free.

These supplements would be added to the fare showing on the meter.

Depending on time or day and day of week the 19 kilometer ride can cost for distance from 20.90 to 26.60 (Sundays and early AM)

The time span for the trip is estimated at 20 minutes and this adds around 6 to 7 euros. A cab stuck in traffic costs 20.70 euros per hour. So if the trip happens to take 10 minutes longer that would add 3 euro.

The old metered fare could run between 30 and 42 euros. Bags are added at 1 euro. Drivers could earn a few more euros by driving 'alternative' routes with the metered system in both time and distance.

The new 39 euro set fare is almost always better or the same as it would be for most cruise passengers with baggage as it is included. The Taxi meter and the tariff sigh on the top of the cab should read fart T4 when entering the port.

This new system can be controlled as the taxi police can monitor that drivers are charging the correct fare.

if you don't mind tagging on to your thread....how available were taxis at the port? We disembark on a Tuesday morning and our flight is at 1:30 PM. I am not particularly fond of ship airport transfers but was wondering about the availability of taxis at the port. Some threads note that the line can be quite long....any advice??? Thanks

With a 1:30 flight, you can have the luxury of taking your time on that last cruise morning, eating breakfast a bit later then most (wait until about a half hour before closing). While most folks are dealing with lines of passengers trying to get off, claim their luggage, etc.....you can be relaxing in a comfy deck chair, perhaps with a cup of coffee, while others are working up a sweat. Those that get off the ship early or during the prime times until 9...will usually face long queues if trying to get a taxi. In your situation we would not even start off the ship until around 9:30....and then we would be moving at a very relaxed pace. At that hour the taxi queue should be relatively short and the crowds thin. Taxis continue to come and go throughout the day...so its just a matter of picking a time when there are fewer passengers competing for the cabs.

It is true that a taxi line getting off cruise ships with over 4000 passengers can appear very long at peak times.

What is also true is that the Port of Barcelona has an extremely impressive system in place for taxi movement, with 8 taxis boarding at every moment with new taxis replacing them immediately as each group of taxis departs.

I have now had the fortune to have sailed out of over 25 home ports worldwide including 14 in Europe and Barcelona has far surpassed any other port I have sailed out of.
