downundermatt Posted April 16, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 16, 2016 Have previously enjoyed Malta, and taken a good look around on the HOHO last trip, but had no time to see the Blue Grotto. Rather than book the HOHO again is it possible to get the Blue Grotto via public transport, rather than hire a taxi or take the HOHO bus again. Appreciate any advice - Cheers !! dln929 Posted April 17, 2016 #2 Share Posted April 17, 2016 We're going to the Blue Grotto on a shore excursion next month on Royal Caribbean's Jewel of the Seas. If nothing else, use this as your ballpark figure of what's reasonable and what's not, price-wise. Our excursion cost $55.75 USD for a trip to the Grotto and free time afterward at the fishing village of Marsaxlokk. We're going the path of least resistance because the last time we were in Malta we had a horrible time trying to connect with the rental car company that we got a car from for the day and wasted so much time. Sauer-kraut Posted April 17, 2016 #3 Share Posted April 17, 2016 Yes you can get to the Blue Grotto from the bus depot outside of Valetta for a few Euros. Just go to the information booth and they will tell you which bus, and the bus driver will tell you where to get off. You will have to walk down the steep street to get to the where the boats are tied for the trip into the grotto. (Its a tourist town so shops will be pricey). You will have to ask the driver where the bus stop is for the return trip, you can do this all in a few hours and have time to go into the city afterwards or walk to the temple site and take the bus back from there.
