Maybe not the closest, but the easiest walk would be from the Hilton Riverside. It connects to the Riverwalk Outlet mall. You walk through the mall, down a covered walkway to a set of stairs that goes down to the terminal. The whole walk is about three city blocks.

I just booked a 4-star hotel for $86 in the Convention Center and Warehouse - Arts District for the night before the cruise! I'm thrilled with the results - Hilton Riverside :D

Hampton Inn is close and nice. You could walk if you want to

Hilton Riverside is indeed the best and walkable in New Orleans. It is connected to the Riverwalk and only a short walk to the terminal. If staying somewhere else you will wait in line to get to the cruise terminal once you get there. The street to the terminal is only 2 lanes and very congested. We waited in line once we were close for over 20 min, and were only one block away. We stayed at the Hilton Riverside after our cruise and it was a 10 min walk at most.
