I have been searching Google and TripAdvisor and can't find anything, maybe I am doing it wrong. We would like to take this tour on our May cruise, but not trough the ship if at all possible. Any suggestions?

TIA

Hi Irina-

Did you end up finding an independent operator for this excursion? I'm also considering not booking through the cruise line, but I wanted to see if you would recommend going with an independent company or not.

Thanks!

In my research so far I've found a few non-cruiseline Altun Ha tours:

Shore Excursioneer offers several: https://www.shoreexcursioneer.com/belize-city

Way to Go Tours: http://www.waytogotoursbelize.com/tours/altun-ha-tour/

Coral Breeze Tours: http://www.coralbreezetours.com/Belize/Mayan/ruins/Altun/Ha/cruise/tour/current_category.15/Product.10/tours_add.html?t_product=10

Island Marketing: https://belizecruiseexcursions.com/excursion/altun-ha-belize/

I have to post the disclaimer that I have no experience with any of these companies, but I have seen positive reviews from other people. Hope that helps!

FWIW, this excursion is the one most like the one offered by Princess (and perhaps other Carnival Corp. cruise lines).

The ship's excursion includes lunch, but the private excursion does not.

I have used shore excursioneer for other ports and have always had a reliable experience. But for Lamanai and Altun Ha excursions that involve long days and a bus and then a boat and then a tour and then a boat and then a bus, I figure that there are too many variable to risk not sticking with the ship's guarantee. And now that Princess is having a sale on certain excursions, the price I am paying for the ship excursion that includes a meal is actually a few pennies less than the excursion that includes no food. No doubt that other cruise lines' prices vary. But while I almost always book "private", the cost savings, (and for me there isn't any), is not worth the stress when I am in Belize. We did Lamanai via river boat one year (through Princess) and our boat broke down dead in the water on the way back to the ship. We lost half an hour's time on an already crunched day. Without the ship's return guarantee, I would have freaked. Or at least, I would have been staring at my watch every 30 seconds and been more stressed than I would want to have been while on vacation.
