RKel32 Posted July 10, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 10, 2017 I've read a lot of threads about different private tour companies on the island, and I'm pretty set on booking a private tour with Rony, as we're in port on a Saturday (Victor Bodden doesn't offer tours on Saturdays). As with most of these private tours, there are a wide range of options and upgrades for the tour. Can anyone speak to some things that you absolutely must see on the island? We're around 30, enjoy high energy activities, but really just enjoy doing anything unique to a region. I've seen a lot of people discussing the monkey/sloth activities, ziplines, cameo factory, and West Bay Beach. I'd hate to see "just another ____" when there's something really interesting and unique that we could have visited. Thanks in advance for the responses. #1TravelMom Posted July 11, 2017 #3 Share Posted July 11, 2017 We've been to Roatan 8 times. We always use Rony - he's awesome! We love the monkeys and the sloths. There are 3 places to see monkeys. Location 1: The monkeys just run loose in the forest. They hang around the buildings and you can interact with them if they cooperate. This place also has a butterfly sanctuary and other animals in cages - you do not interact with these inside the cages. Location 2: Victor's Monkey Business. A guide will escort you around the enclosures. You view the animals. You can enter the cages and interact with the monkeys and some birds. Location 3: Daniel's. Smaller than Victor's. You view some of the animals. You can hold the sloths. You can enter cages for parrots and monkeys. (Holding the sloths is amazing). Daniel's is 5 mins+/- from the Iguana farm if you are interested in feeding LOTS of iguanas. If you go to Daniel's(East) - Pirates of the Caribbean will be the closest zipline. The disadvantage is that Daniel's and Pirates Zipline are totally the opposite direction from West Bay Beaches. Daniel's to West Bay - 45-60 mins. Victor's(West) is only 15 from South Shore Zipline and then 5 minutes from there to West Bay. Overiew: Daniel's and Victor's are 20-30 minutes from Coxen Hole and Mahogany Bay - but in opposite directions. If you are not completely confused, I will tell you what we prefer. Even though logistically and timewise it is more complicated, we prefer Daniel's, South Shore, and then West Bay. We just can't resist the sloths. You will add 30-40 minutes drive time going to Daniel's vs. Victor's, then South Shore, and then West Bay. But, best overall plan in our opinion. If you don't care about sloths, head to Monkey Business. Rony is the best person to spend your day with. Book his freestyle tour and you have a private driver for the whole day no matter where you choose to go! The ziplines are soooo much fun and inexpensive compared to most islands. The beaches in West Bay are gorgeous. The water is crystal clear.

eldrima Posted September 15, 2017 #6 Share Posted September 15, 2017 We followed your advice here and it was an amazing day!! We didn't have enough time for the beach but we had lunch near that area! Thanks for the great tips' We are booked with Rony's in a week and a half for a private and would like to do this itin. Do you remember how long your boat was in port? Did you need to make a reservation at Daniel's in order to be able to hold the sloths? Did you have the time to stop by Rony's town to meet any of the locals?
