I want to rent a car HELP

Everything I read about renting a car seems so confusing. Car company web sites are no help either. I see Hertz and Thrifty "pick up only" at Port of Miami, but the address is the same as the airport location. What does this mean?

Anyway, I would like to rent a car at the Fort Lauderdale airport and drop off next day as close to Port of Miami as possible. Is this easy? There are 4 of us. My husband could drop luggage and 3 of us off at port and then return car to wherever... do the rental companies provide shuttles?

Also, on return, we would like to rent a car Saturday AM and tour South Beach before heading up to Ft. Lauderdale. Can we rent a car at the port or are there shuttles to where we CAN rent?

Would love to know details if anyone has done this. Port Canaveral was so much easier it seems.

I rented from Hertz at the FL airport. We drove to Miami for an overnight stay at the Radisson. We drove to the drop off point downtown and took the free shuttle to the pier. Absolutely not problems at all.
