Fredericia Car Rental - Ribe - Odense/Egeskov too much ?

Hi There

Will be in Fredericia for nine hours this June, planning on renting a car and allowing 8 hours for this day trip.

I understand Odense/Egeskov Castle are close together, but would also like to visit Ribe if it is doable in one day (I realise it will incur a lot of driving, possibly 3 hours)

Has someone actually done this previously, or give me a suggested routing or indication of time ? Suggestions from a local would be greatly appreciated.

You will almost spend 4 hours on the road so I wouldn´t do it if I was you.

I don´t know If you can fit all in but with 8 hours it should be possible.

Drive early and visit H C Andersens museum that opens at 10:00, his birthplace is also in Odense but on another location.

When done here (and if you have to time) drive back to Fredericia via the beautiful towns of Faaborg and Assens.

We'll be in Fredericia too this June and a group from our RC is planning a convoy to visit the Jelling mounds and Runic Stones, said to be about 45 mins drive. After that some are going to Egeskov castle and Odense, not sure what we'll do. My main problem is that I still haven't been able to get a quote from Sixt to book a car, this despite several emails, think I'll call Sixt USA and go through them!

Yes, that's why we probably won't go to Egeskov, anything else we could do near Jelling? If not we plan on getting back to Fredericia and just walking around the old town, this is a port intensive trip and we might appreciate some down time:D

Legoland and Koldinghus Castle is nearby.

There is also some bridge walking/climbing at the old Lillebælt Bridge.

Several others have been able to book vehicles with Sixt Fredericia, but am reassured that I'm not the only one to have problems:D:D:D

Ok, though I do wish they'd have replied to say nothing was available. I've been in touch with them for over a month, am sure they had vehicles at that time. Let me know if you find something else, if not we soend a quiet day walking around town, one can rent bikes too, so that might be an option for some of us.

We are going to Egeskov in mid-May. How much time should we allow to see the castle and lovely grounds?

Where does the ship dock? Do you know if there will be cabs to take us to Avis car rental on Vesterbrogade in Fredericia.

I would say that 3 hours should be plenty but there are lots and lots of things to see so you could probably use more time. :D

Unless the taxi company is dumb as f... There should be taxies waiting at the pier, and I must admit that I don't know the name but I will try to find out.

BTW, please check the Copenhagen thread, Danish Viking gave me names of some Fredericia car rental agencies last week, should be in the last couple of pages. I did manage to book the last two vehicles from Avis, but there are others too, though you'll need to get moving asap. Copenhagen thread, post # 303 & 306

Is there a reason you're prioritising Jelling over Egeskov? I'm an American living in Denmark and visiting Egeskov remains one of my favorite memories of living here. It's a lovely castle with beautiful gardens, a maze, antique car museum, etc.

Jelling is something I visited on a drive through the town.

I thought jelling would be something different compared to Egeskov, we'll be seeing so many castles at other places.
