We went to Rojo Tango, it was excellent. The food was good and they send a car to pick you up from your hotel and take you back after the show.

El Rojo Tango is easily the most expensive, most sensual and, some say, the best tango show in town. The setting is in a modern five star hotel in the new Puerto Madero area. This is a more intimate show in a smaller theater with fewer dancers than many of the other locations. There is little doubt that the food here is superior to the meals served at other shows. Expect to pay about double the price of most of the other shows.

Most tango shows are in historic venues in the older neighborhoods where the dance was born. They offer a choice of a dinner show or show and a drink. Food quality is decent in some places but not spectacular. In some shows the best seats are at tables that serve dinner, and many believe it is worth the extra expense to improve the ability to see and hear the show.

I have provided a link to a site that provides links to the main shows in town. Cafe de los Angelitos, la Ventana and Piazolla are getting recent positive reviews. Carlos Gardel was once a premier show but recent reviews have not been very good--too many people crammed in, mediocre food and poor site lines for many tables.

Taconeando is a small show not linked on this site but I recommend it if you are on a budget. A lot of locals and tourists from other parts of Latin America go here because it is more affordable than other shows. There are not as many dancers as found at the larger shows but the quality is excellent and most all the seats are good. I usually get dinner and ask for a table next to the stage. Stay with the steak and the meal is ok. The pasta, not so much.

Our B & B advised us on Tango Show, there are several good shows.

We ultimately did Tango Porteno with dinner. It was fantastic. Also, you don't need to buy the expensive seats down front.

In January 2011 our Argentinian friend recommended La Esquina Carlos Gardel tango show with dinner. We took his advice and loved it. We did not book directly through the website. We booked through tnm.com and the price was much cheaper which our friend could not believe. They picked the four of us up at the pier, drove us to the show, had dinner and the show at our own table instead of a communal table and then picked us up and brought us back to the ship. Check the different websites to determine if tnm.com is still doing this trip and compare the prices.

We just went to La Boca during the day and they have ongoing Tango and Gaucho dancing for free. We could sit at different places with a glass of wine and enjoy the show. Don't think DH would pay for an hour and a half of it though. To us every dance looked the same and we researched it a lot before we went to BA lol
