Head's Up to Conquest Passengers 1/7/2017

News outlets are reporting officials are not letting anyone out of the FLL airport in Fort Lauderdale airport due to a shooting incident. Conquest sails from Fort Lauderdale tomorrow, so I was thinking there are likely Conquest passengers arriving a day early as many do that might be affected.

I also heard there is currently a ground stop in effect for both MIA and FLL airports.

MIA and Lauderdale completely shutdown for all flights.

I also read airports around the country have heightened security. This will likely have a ripple effect of delays. It could be interesting trying to get to a cruise this weekend for those flying in. The spokesperson said planes headed for FLL may be sent to alternate airports for some period of time going forward. It sounds like they are taking precautions because this may be a coordinated effort with more people potentially being involved. Spokesperson said the shooter was an Air Canada arriving passenger who claimed his weapon from baggage claim and took it into the bathroom and loaded it, and came out shooting.

Prayers for the victims and their families.

Looks like Port Everglades is currently closed to all traffic as well.

Port of Miami says on their website they are open with enhanced security measures in place.

I just heard on NBC news that some of the victims were cruise ship passengers.
