First Time Cruisers - Nitro & The Missus - July 4 - July 11:

(Outside Cabin with large window - no balcony)

1) Embarkation & Debarkation were no problem at all. Arrived dockside at noon and we were in our cabin in 45 minutes. Debarkation was even quicker 20 minutes tops. 10/10

2) Service, personal attention first rate. Had occasion to use medical facilities due to a fall when I tripped over a siewalk in Wrangell. Attention first rate very professional. (I work as a Chaplain in our local hospital) 10/10

3) Food: Out of our own choice we chose NOT to visit any of the restaurants which had an extra tarrif. We ate all of our meal in the main dining room. NEVER saw the same entree twice and NEVER the same menu offerings. Enjoyed everything from a Hamburg (Lunch) to "Oysters Rckafellar" & "Cherries Jubilee". Needless to say food rate a 9.5 on my personal richter scale. 9.5/10

4) Cabins; Always clean - and prepared. King sized bed firm but comfortable. Certainly bigger than anything I've ever slept on. 9/10

5) Entertainment: Colin Kerr & The folks with the Ryan Troupe put on great shows. Full of life, energy and talent. 9/10

We were first time cruisers who chose "freestyle" to do things when we wanted, where we wanted and how we wanted.

6) Over 2100 passengers & 950 crew members.

NEGATIVE COMMENTS:

1) Photos, Photos, Photos - somewhat intrusive but live with it. It's part of the game.

2) Buy diamonds, Columbian Emerals, Duty Free Booze - somewhat intrusive but live with it. It's part of the game.

HIGH POINT: Juneau

1) Mendenhall glacier - absolutely spectacular - causes the hair to stand up on your neck.

2) Getting up close and personal with South Sawyer Galcier - WOW!

Wednesday was worth the price of the cruise.

Now it's back to reality.

Hi Nitro!

Welcome home, I was watching your webcam all last week seeing where the ship was :D I am happy to hear you had a great time as I am on that cruise in about 3 weeks.

Questions (if you don't mind)

What did you do around the ship on 'at sea' days?

Did you use the pool or hot tubs?

Did you take the train at Skagway? and what did you do in Ketchikan?

Sorry to hear about your fall... :( I am glad they looked after you though.

Did you notice many children? I have a 10 year old with me.

Did you feel the ship was crowded?

Thanx in advance! Cassie

a) In Skagway we chose the mini-bus trip to the Yukon. The route followed the train route with the added bonus of a much smaller group 8 - 10, guide, and cheaper $89

b) Sea days we walked around quite a bit. Casino, sit & watch the scenery go by.

c) I'm told that there were 300+ children. Never a bother seemed to be well occupied. Very well behaved.

d) Didn't use pool or hot tubs - weather a trifle chilly. my hot tuib days are gone.

We just returned from the Sun 7/18. You asked if there was anything you must do. Our best excursion was in Juneau, where we took the Misty Fjord tour. This tour starts as the ship is leaving Juneau. It takes you much closer to the glacier and then it meets up with the ship and you get back on.

It was the best tour of all. You need warmer clothes though. When we left Juneau it was 70 degrees and when we were on this tour, we had heavy coats and mittens as you are cruising through water, with lots of ice chunks around you. Any other questions, email me at beebes@uslink.net
