 We came home sat. and now I need a cruise I miss the rolling the service and the BOATDRINKS .

That being said I did try to be an XSNOB on this cruise ;) !

The Century was as great as ever but it is starting to show its age . I heard a rumor that next year it will do the souhtern carib. and the western carib. not the eastern carib. I say Good the eastern carib does not work well as you get in to some ports late in the day or have to little time at others.

She is showing her age in many small ways but none that would cause you not to have a great time!!

We took a small tour in P.R.,went to coqui beach and went parasailing there it was great and only $55 a person :D st.martin was a bad trip the French side was closed it was a holiday the Dutch side was ok and yes we went to orient beach {the nude beach}and in nassua we took a tour then went shopping!!! Ihad a great time on the century !!!

Jim - Glad you had a good cruise. At almost 10 years old I expect some "small" signs of aging, but it doesn't sound like anything major. I love, love, love this ship. I can't wait until our September cruise. I do wish Celebrity would put out her schedule for next year and put us out of our misery!

I'm a tad concerned about the recent Century cruisers who, almost as an aside, admit the ship is "showing her age." Can you give us examples?

I have to say, I don't like hotel rooms that need new carpet and furniture and a paint job. Is this what is going on? If so, why isn't Celebrity refurbing this ship on the fly?

We were on the ship the end of March - April this year. I have never been on the Century before (but I do know what wear and tear looks like) I thought she was a beautiful ship and in fine shape. The crew is constantly working to keep her beautiful, too. Our cabin (SS 1207) was clean, bright and looked new....no wear, tear, stains...just perfect. I thought the dining room, casino, spa etc was in great shape as well. The only thing I noticed a little scuzzy was the steamroom which is just off the T-pool. It was really bad...like being in the toe of a dirty sweaty sneaker - yuck! That was the only thing I saw that was in bad shape...and we were all over that ship too!

I agree...we cruised her last summer and didn't notice any wear and tear!

I also found that people complain about some of the newer ship having more problems (probably because of cheaper materials).

The Century is scheduled for dry dock June 1-10, 2005 at which time they will be refurbishing the ship. I was on in May and we felt the carpeting was okay, but the bedspreads really needed to be replaced. However, after the first night, they didn't put the spreads on, so everything was okay. I'm hoping to schedule a cruise departing on June 11, 2005 to see how the ship looks.

If you haven't heard it yet, the Century is scheduled for monthly nine-day cruises next year with three new destination islands. Can't wait. There hasn't been any word on what the ship will be doing the rest of each month.

We were on Century last October, and loved it!

It seemed "like new" to us except for the aforementioned bedspreads...and

the worn and scratched plexiglass beneath the railings surrounding the upper decks.

Sounds trivial at first, but it really did inhibit the views. Also, I guess it stood out because it contrasted so much with the near pristine condition of most everything else on the ship. (It's so obviously worn-looking, I can't imagine that they wouldn't replace it during dry dock.)

We are sailing Century this Sept. 11th. I'm hopeful we won't be in for any disappointments about the ship's condition. From most of the posts I've seen, we shouldn't be. The Century seems to inspire a very loyal following. We're doing a CC stateroom, but no balcony, which will come as a big adjustment for us (usually mini or junior suites), but the $$ was too good to pass up. I think we've seen SO many new ships come online in the last five or six years, that many of us have come to believe anything more than 5 years old is OLD, and that is so not true. You want to see OLD, look at some of the short-haul "gambling" ships going out of some of the Florida ports- I've seen better looking tugboats. ;-O

That is WONDERFUL to hear since we are in room 1207 on 8/21 sailing. Do you have any pictures of the room or anything we should know about?

We were on the Century for our 1st Celebrity cruise 4/17/2004. We thought the ship was absolutely beautiful and we could understand that because the crew was constantly working on cleaning and maintenance. The service and food were also fabulous. We are booked on the Mercury for Alaska in about 6 weeks. If that is anything like the Century we will be delighted.

thanks for the info. If the bedspreads are a little out dated I don't mind. I have sailed the little sisters Z&H and the colors were very outdated and my bedspread was obviously patched. did that detract from the cruise, definately not. I had a marvelous time. I don't expect perfection. If I expected perfection I would be disappointed in everything. If I expect inperfection and things are almost perfect I am ecstatic and am not disappointed. I can't wait for Sept. 18 to come. what kind of tour did you take in the bahamas? deb

I'm so glad you had a good time! and yes...those boatdrinks are so hard to part with....they were some of the yummiest I have ever had on vacation! We're going to book her for next summer on either the 9 or 10 day itinerary after the refurb and can't wait!!!

i'm going at the end of august and can't wait. how is she showing her age. i was on in ocotber 2003 and she looked fine to me. is alan king still the cd? what were the shows?

Yes, I am back from Century today. Allan King is still the CD and he is great ! The Ladder Guy was there, and I am told he is there most all the time. The Shows were excellent.

As for her showing her age, its not that bad at all. There were several places where the carpets were very worn and elevator buttons that didnt work, and some signs of worn paint in some places, but nothing that I would consider a very big deal.

Overall, she is in very good shape, so dont worry !

Regards,

Andy
