If We Don't Do An Excursion....

...and simply get off the ship, browse the shops and have a nice lunch - will we be satisfied?

Can anyone recommend a nice spot for lunch?

We did just what you described the last time we were in Progresso. We took the shuttle into town, we shopped in the market for a while, then walked down to the beach. We had a wonderful lunch at Le Saint Bonnet, and then strolled along the beach before heading back to the market where you catch the shuttle to the pier.

We just wanted to relax and not worry about keeping up with a schedule of an excursion, etc., and we really enjoyed it.

My wife and I will be going to Progreso for the first time in January (re-routed from Costa Maya due to Hurricane Dean). After looking at the list of shore excursions available through Carnival, we're considering just a lazy, unstructured day just like you describe.

Quite frankly, it would appear that if you've done a shore excursion at one port, all the others look about the same.

I am going to check out the town and have a lazy day in Progresso too. But I think with the amount of time we have there I can do the DZ ruins and hit the beach as well as shopping.;)
