  1. can anyone elaborate on this? It sounds like fun.

    Ha ha! Well -

WINE LOVERS THE MUSICAL tells the story of two mismatched students attending a wine class led by an effervescent teacher and their journey of falling in love. Guests attending the show will experience a wine tasting unlike other, as they sample six different wines over lunch all while watching a hilarious musical comedy.

The wine selections include varietals such as Estancia Pinot Grigio, Penfolds Koonunga Hill Chardonnay, Beringer Founders Estate Pinot Noir and North & South, Norwegian's proprietary Red Blend from California.

    This was as of 2013!

  2. This is our first time having a suite on NCL Star. We are so excited. I have checked out a few threads, but I just want to get some dos and don'ts about suites. I hear that people are asking the butler for things, but for the life of me I can't imagine what to ask for. Let me know what you do and then I can get some ideas of the "wonders" that await us.

You my dear are in for a treat. On our first cruise ever with NCL our cabin was 9500 a penthouse suite. And how sweet it was.

Here is my review of the suite life. I was gobsmacked.

  3. I am just really excited -- the "parents" don't know we upgraded our family to the Haven. The look on their faces is going to be priceless and worth all of it.

Just wondering a creative way to tell them when we arrive at the pier. ;)

My only concern is I hope my mother in law doesn't have to stand an awfully long time because she has a hip and leg issue and if she stands too long and is in a lot of pain.

  4. We got the same charge and I think it's the UDP or the UBP like LrgPizza said. There was also a special charge for a show we booked.

Did you receive the UDP or UBP package as a promo with your cruise? If so, you are being charged gratuities on the package.
  5. Whew - That's all I can say! And a big huge shout out and thanks to the on shore concierge crew (department) at NCL. :D:D

I am planning a cruise for our family of seven - and while we are going to have tons and tons of fun the pre-planning stuff is time consuming.

It can also be mind boggling.

Today the concierge folks helped me walk through the needs and preferences of all seven of us -- reserved our shows as well as made our dinner reservations.

That in itself was a challenge.

They also tied up a few loose ends and discovered some other stuff that could have been potentially a pain in the neck and "fixed" them!

I am just so thankful and again "whew"

Now this cruise director can actually vacation on her own vacation:););)

  6. Can't help with your question re size of the love seat, however, we did a tour of the Getaway and have some photos of Haven suites and courtyard. If they are of any interest, I am happy to post them on here.

    Drewlin-

Yes yes! Please post photos I'd love to see them!! Anything is great!

    Thank you!

  7. In order to compare suites, one needs to know the exact category codes.

On new megaships even the lowest suites are Haven suites, there are no non-Haven suites like older ships (Star does not have Haven suites at all).

Demonyte- hi ya it's an H5 category penthouse suite on deck 15. I don't think it's all the way forward like some of the other suites.

    Thanks:)

  8. You will get much more room in a forward penthouse and aft penthouse since they have their own separate living room. The aft penthouse has another bathroom too. The Haven penthouse is nothing but a balcony stateroom with many upgrades (the bathroom is nicer, bed better, décor, etc.)

But the forward and aft penthouses are not in the Haven but do get access to it. So the choice is: Do you sacrifice more room for being in the Haven? Each person will have a different answer. I stayed in a forward penthouse on Getaway and loved the extra room. But the long walks to just about anywhere sometimes were annoying. Having a third guest stay on the sofa would make me lean towards the penthouses outside the Haven because your guest gets privacy with their own room sorta. If price is not an issue, the aft penthouse would work best with more than 2 staying inside the penthouse since the guest on the sofa bed will have their own bathroom.

David! Hi there - i'm saving your post and taking notes and I am intrigued about aft penthouse suites.

This is going to sound so dumb so hang in there with me- my worry about a penthouse suite in the back of the boat is that I might I don't know smell fuel or something.

Isn't that the dumbest thing you've ever heard?

I read that some people just swear by aft suites.

    I know I know - silly.

    Thanks for your reply.

  9. The H5 on the Getaway is nothing like the H5 on the Pearl. The Pearl is MUCH nicer, totally separate animals, no comparison.

LKW- good morning! What in your opinion are the differences in regards to the rooms? Size? The last time we were on the pearl we stayed in a mini suite which was just fine for us. We just wanted to do something special for our folks who are in their late 70s and we thought this would be a nice treat.

I booked too late as originally I wanted to see if we could book them a spa suite but they were already sold out and really we all kind of wanted to be together there are seven of us in three cabins.

I know this is going to sound silly – but I think one of the big selling points to us upgrading our family is everyone's going to be happy there's an espresso maker in their room:) ha ha.

Me- I'm a concierge girl I admit to liking to be taken care of and spoiled on my vacation.

And I know this many people disagree with me when I share that I pre-tip in cash little bit when I first got on the ship to let our concierge and Butler know we appreciate them – and I find it makes a huge difference in regards to the service you get for the rest of your time.

  10. Hey there - We are sailing 8/15 on NCL Getaway to the Eastern Caribbean route - we are taking family. There will be seven of us in three cabins.

On a previous ship - the Star we cruised to Alaska in a Penthouse a suite and loved it.

We decided to upgrade the family from mini suites to Haven suites. This is a once in a lifetime for them and we figured it would be fun and a nice surprise.

I gave a few questions - Haven penthouse suite is the same as suite on the Star or Pearl yes?

It says it sleeps three - one queen then a love seat - it makes into a bed. Any if you with 6 foot teenagers that slept comfortably on the love seat pull out?

When we upgraded they included the ultimate drink package which my hubby was very happy about. Me- I could care less about alcohol, I don't drink much.

I'd love to hear from Haven travelers and how was their experience over all.

    Thanks-

    Marna

  11. Oh that's right no more lounge on the Star....

Well that might be a tipping point for me. I loved loved loved that lounge.

Loved my very recent Star cruise and my two Jewel cruises as well.

I'd pick the Jewel because of the Great Outdoors and the Spinnaker Lounge.

Decide which itinerary you really prefer. See the difference in air fares too.

  12. The Star all the way :)

    Hi All,

Only cruised on NCL one time, looking at this two options for a free casino offer I received. One is Western Caribbean the other is Mexican Rivera. I'm in Georgia so I'd rather not fly to LA unless Jewel is much better than Star. I don't really care about destination, we mainly go for the ships. Looks like neither have mini golf, my son is gonna kill me.. :)

I'll be traveling with my 4 year old son, this will be his 5th cruise.. :) We went on Getaway earlier this year for our first NCL experience.

    Thanks..

  13. Hey there -

Before we know it we will be setting sail for the Caribbean and we can't wait! We ran into super bad coffee the last cruise to Alaska -- and my research tells me that the coffee on most ships is not so great.

Do any of you expert cruisers know if it's against the rules to pack an electric moka pot? This way I can bring my own ground coffee and make a decent morning cup of espresso.

    Thanks ahead of time:)
