...and also the consequences that come with that choice. We live in a country where too many people think there are no consequences to choices made. She at least seems to understand the consequences as this pushes her light years ahead of many in the anti vaxxer group.

Of course consequences come with all choices. What do you care if someone is a vaxxer or an anti-vaxxer?

It is her right to avoid taking one of the vaccines as much as the cruiselines saying she has to jump through more hoops to onboard. She seems to understand she is risking not only getting on the ship but losing not only her cruise money but paying for a test out of her own pocket. Maybe she plans on curtailing activities enough to reduce risk of a positive test. Then again she was pretty adamant about surviving her previous covid experience as maybe that has emboldened her to refuse avoiding risky activities as then she will more likely fall into the camp that is denied boarding. Best of luck to her as I have no problem going on a cruise with folks similar to her since they are going to have a more difficult path getting there anyway.

All of which is her decision and no one else's. 😉

I'm a healthy individual that took the vaccine (and a better shot of staying that way by being vaccinated) and what a relief that has been! Glad you at least understand your choice has consequences when it comes to being able to onboard or at least onboard with ease as many don't get it.  I see no path forward for unvaccinated to get on ships without some challenges that could result in being turned away on embarkation day. Not sure if you are even attempting a cruise in the next 12-18 months (probably best to wait until 2023+ in your case) but best of luck with navigating the murky waters of the unvaccinated as I'm glad don't have to deal with that risk on my cruise $$$ investment.

Thank you for not feeling the need to control Posesmom's decisions. 😉

There are no guaranties in life. You don't need rigged questions to validate alien ideas. The better questions are what does science say provides the best chance of a successful cruise. People afraid of the vaccine or a little inconvenience can stay home.

The naming of objective questions as "rigged" does not make them so. (Similar to facts vs feelings.) It only exposes your continuing agenda of control with no regard to actual mortality or spread.

Speaking of science; let's review the death and sickness rate from second hand smokers: https://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/data_statistics/fact_sheets/secondhand_smoke/general_facts/index.htm

Anyone with a mind for death and sickness (especially with children) will recognize the effects from 2nd hand smoke. Children and elderly suffer the most from this choice of others. Why not campaign for the elimination of smoking on ships with the same vigor as covid? Is dead from smoke different from dead from a flu? What is your brand of cigarette?

Listen, for anybody that thinks just because Carnival says they won't require vaccinations that it will just be back to showing your passport and boarding pass, then away you go...are completely dillusional. You can expect much different boarding procedure's for at least a full year after resumption of cruising (i.e., at least through fall of 2022).

Nobody, and I mean nobody in the cruise industry (including those sailing elsewhere) have said or currently follow the old boarding process as the path for unvaccinated people to get on a ship while not impossible, will contain significantly more risk of being denied boarding via multiple tests while vaccinated folks will see a significantly easier path. If you are unvaccinated and are willing to take 10-14 days off from work/school before the cruise, do not use any air or public transportation to get to the port, and do not participate in large group gatherings (e.g., no church, public dining, etc..) then you have a good chance of getting onboard. Although my family is vaccinated, I have zero concern interacting with those types of unvaccinated individuals.

However, since many in this unvaccinated group also tend to be covid deniers that have spent the last year doing the opposite of this with numerous potential exposure events (odds are high they got covid), I highly doubt they will do all of these quarantine type actions (e.g., "it's mah rights to do what I want" ). Many of these folks will fail tests and throw tantrums when they are not allowed to board. If you fall into this category, then I wouldn't book a cruise until 2023 or later.

Not sure which question(s) you answered - but hey, thank you for sharing your opinion.😀

  6. This thread is chock full of "this could happen, maybe, this might happen, perhaps, inclined to believe, etc" when it comes to covid and cruising. Why?

Most on here are adamant about mandating masks & vaccines (as related to covid) for those others than themselves, but for what reason(s) exactly?

How about a perspective check that we can all learn from?

    1. What will covid vaccines ABSOLUTELY do for us while onboard?
    2. What will covid vaccines ABSOLUTELY prevent from happening while onboard?
    3. What will masks (any mask) ABSOLUTELY do for us while onboard?
    4. What will masks (any mask) ABSOLUTELY prevent from happening while onboard?
    5. IF vaccines are required for all passengers & crew; should masks be required? Why?
    6. Am I 100% guaranteed not to catch covid on a ship if masks & vaccines are mandatory for all? Why?
    7. What is everyone most worried about concerning covid and sailing? Death? Sickness? What?

Cruising is global, like the pandemic. Open your eyes- there's a world out there and the US is just a small piece.

You asserted that cruise lines are sailing today, then when asked which lines were sailing today, you diverted. That's ok, we can move on.

Your narrative of mask-wearing and vaccinations for others than yourself is not about health or mortality rates - it's about control of others. I don't care if you wish to wear an oxygen-carrying, fully enclosed bodysuit with 17 masks and get every covid-vaccine available for your own protection when you cruise. That is your choice.

If improving health and death rate reduction of others is/was your actual goal, you'd also advocate for behavior such as the elimination of second-hand smoke by others. (40,000 annual deaths in the U.S. alone by second hand smoking according to the CDC):

https://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/data_statistics/fact_sheets/health_effects/tobacco_related_mortality/index.htm#:~:text=Exposure to secondhand smoke causes, adults in the United States%3A&text=Secondhand smoke causes 7%2C333 annual deaths from lung cancer.&text=Secondhand smoke causes 33%2C951 annual deaths from heart disease.

So is your goal to reduce the death rate & improve the health of folks affected by the choices of others? (Such as second-hand smoking). Or does your agenda only involve the control of others through covid?

Which cruise lines sailing today don't require masks, testing, social distancing, empty seats in theaters, etc? If you need to know why Americans aren't welcome on the cruise lines sailing now, look in the mirror. Or your neighbors mirror. It is a slippery slope civilized people know better than to go down.

Um - what cruise lines are sailing today, mask or no mask? And there is no slippery slope for critical thinkers. 😉

I have a legit question.  If you are vaccinated, then why are you afraid of people who aren't?  Also. I have read that since the vaccine does not have any of the virus living or dead, it won't protect you from getting it, but you'll get a much milder case. Before you accused me of being an "antivaxxer", I'm not. I'm just very careful about what I put in my body.

    Um - control.
