  1. I almost always book rental cars via Priceline. I look at the cheapest daily rates for the size car I want and then bid something lower. I have always gotten Hertz, Avis National or Budget to rent me a car at lower than the cheapest rates using Priceline and you can designate drop off and puck up in the bid. Example--today I looked in San Diego for October-- cheapest rate was 22/day for small car from Ace rentals-- I bid 23 on PL for midsize and was told to go higher so I bid 25 and got it from Budget for a midsize-- decent deal

  2. I'm curious if type of cabin/location of cabins play a role here as well as type of bed (sofa bed vs regular bed) and bed arrangement (together Vs. Apart).

Maybe we can find a pattern here.

If you wouldn't mind, please include this information. I'm going to put together a spreadsheet and will publish the results by the end of the week. Please include your cabin number and date that you sailed. It may be possible that someone had the same cabin and that the mattress was swapped out at some point.

So I guess we are speculating that the cheaper the cabin the harder the mattress?

"If you want a good nights sleep you need to buy a suite" is the new Royal Jingle/slogan?????

  3. We're partial to Crystal, just as hot and much tastier than Tabasco.

    Bob--

when next in Barbados you might want to pick up a bottle of Barbadon sauce--my family's favorite hot sauce-- when I cruise there I buy it by the case and ship it home

  4. My sister and I both get motion sick easily. We've had good luck with Bonine (it's sold next to the Dramamine at the drug store). She actually spent 1.5 days riding out a typhoon on a Filipino ferry with the help of Bonine. It's relatively inexpensive, so he could try it out on the ground while riding in cars, ambulances, etc. I actually carry it in my purse all the time.

For motion sickness as severe as his, though, it might worth seeing a doctor as well. Also, consider booking mid-ship and a lower deck for less motion.

Bonine is the absolutely best thing for me-- it works like a champ (and I am sensitive to motion as well) and does not make you drowsy nor sleepy and you take 1 pill a day (good for 24 hors)--always worked for me

  5. For cabs-- $40/port should be enough-- for walking around trinket buying money $100/port (lunch for 2 will usually be 25-35 $ and I hate to use credit cards unless absolutely necessary-- had a few incidences from the carribean with stolen CC #)

so with 3 or 4 ports I would take $600 to cover all incidentals (including extra tips) and you should have plenty left over. But as always these things tend to be personal in nature and everyone is different. You certainly do not need that much if you take trams and share cabs and are careful where you spend

  6. I don't know about AMEX, but from what you described, it sounds like Royal's shareholder benefit OBC, which I can only use when I book an inside or OV.

Since when can you EVER use the shareholder credit?

Held the stock for 5 years and could not use it on any of 6 cruises--so we sold it (and made a nice profit so I really have no complaint-- except that shareholder BENEFIT is a misleading statement)
