  1. Does anyone have an email address to the Maiter D for the Teppanyaki Grill on the Spirit? I just found out you can not make advanced reservations online. I was wondering if anyone had any tips or suggestions on how I could make an advanced reservation. Thank you.

The Spirit has only one Teppanyaki grill table on board. That is why they do not offer advanced reservations. It can accomodate 10 people. I think there are three time slots per night for dinner. When we were aboard they also opened it for lunch on sea days. Make a reservation as soon as you board. We made a reservation for lunch on a sea day two days in advance.

  2. Oooh, 9:30? No thanks. I guess we'll be working around the earlier show. How was the entertainment quality? Our RC Med cruise in 2012 had HORRIBLE entertainment & the CD was pretty lame, as well. He put absolutely zero effort into his job.

I thought the entertainment was just ok with the exception of the Motown Show. Really enjoyed that one. Your kids might like the juggling and the magic.

  3. Awesome tips! Keep 'em coming! :D And thanks so much for all the good suggestions.

What time are the shows for the Med cruises? We have kids & are used to eating fairly early, so I am assuming we will get cleaned up after our port excursions, head to dinner & then do the later show, if possible.

On our cruise in March the showtimes were 7:30 and 9:30.

  4. The back of the Spirit is kind of neat too. It has outdoor tables and there is often live music back there. But there is also a tiered lounge chair area overlooking the kids water play area and it was always very popular. It was a little on the cool side weather wise when we cruised, but this area was a little more protected from the wind. Nice area on the ship for some sun, drinks, music and relaxing.

  5. We enjoyed the Spirit. One of my favorite places was the Galaxy of the Stars lounge with big windows looking forward, interesting odds and ends to look at and cozy places to sit and read or gaze out to sea. Be sure to go down the spiral stairs to see the bridge.

Champagne Charlie's was a nice place to listen to piano music. I was not fond of the Blue Lagoon or the Shanghai Bar as they were right in a busy traffic area off the atrium.

The hair dryer in our cabin was the old fashioned kind with what looked like a vacuum hose coming out of it. The art work and decorations were lovely on this ship and we found the crew friendly and helpful.

  6. When we sailed to South America on the Sun, the cruise director was really into star gazing. He would give a lecture in the afternoon about what stars were visible at night in the southern hemisphere and then the group would meet him on the top deck at night. They would turn out all the lights up there and he had some kind of laser pointer to show us the constellations (including the southern cross). It helped make an already memorable cruise that much more special and through word of mouth he ended up having to repeat the demonstration several times on the two week cruise. Really awesome!

But in any case, if our balcony is too bright we try to find a darker spot to look up at the night sky for awhile.

  7. We go on a Christmas cruise almost every year. They plan special activities from gingerbread house making, visits with Santa, the Captain reading the Night Before Christmas, caroling, gifts, and special shows, as well as special menus in the dining rooms. And of course the ship is usually nicely decorated and we bring our own decorations as well. It is nice to see so many families celebrating together.

  8. Thank you both for your replies! We appreciate you taking the time to respond.

We are well aware that Hawaii is the main attraction, which is why we are considering this specific cruise. :-)

Having never cruised on NCL before we were hoping from Cruise Critic to get more of an idea of what it is like to cruise on NCL, what their ships are like, etc.

POA is a pretty ship with a friendly crew. I know that Hawaii is the main attraction, but perhaps because we spent a week in Hawaii pre-cruise, had been to Hawaii before and live in a semi tropical climate we enjoyed the amenties on the ship very much.

Our deck of cabins was not ready until three oclock on embarkation day. We had lunch and enjoyed sitting in the pink champagne lounge listening to the music from the atrium and looking at the small museum in the lounge area. Our family of five enjoys trivia and we played several times. We went to almost all the shows and I was surprised that everyone in our party enjoyed them very much. There were Hawaiian ambassadors aboard and my adult daughters enjoyed the hula classes when we were back on board in time to participate. We also enjoyed the lei making crafts.

My husband and son spent some time in the Gold Rush saloon watching sports and I would breeze through to pick up popcorn as a snack. My adult kids enjoyed the white hot party. The sail away bbq was nice. We couldn't find a table down by the pool, but realized that there were tables on little alcoves jutting out over the pool deck and we enjoyed seeing Honolulu slip away and we then headed to the back of the boat to see the sun setting.

We enjoyed our balcony cabins very much (aft). The bathrooms were tiny. You just have to be ok with roosters crowing every morning in port and some port noise (unloading a cargo ship early one morning in Kauai). The Na Pali Coast sail by was spectacular from our balcony.

No casino and Bingo was for prizes only (no cash).

We rented a car in every port except Kona. There were a couple of days that my daughter wanted to do something more adventurous and the really nice people at the excursion desk helped her pick out kayaking and rappeling. She had a blast.

Overall, if you have the time and desire to, you can find plenty to do aboard the POA.

  9. We have a chance to either get a balcony cabin either on the Aft or Forward section of the ship. We have done aft before on other ships without a problem but have always stayed away from the forward section.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi! I grew up in Silver Spring! Anyway, we were aft on the POA with no problems. On our next cruise we were all the way forward (I mean overlooking the front of the ship) and the motion did bother us. So we have moved back to the aft for our next cruise.

  10. Thanks Silvercrikhix -

I just found that thread. I thought I really hit the jackpot but the poster has posted the dailies in such a format that they are unreadable. Maybe he will figure it out and post them again with a readable version.

With your info, I'll use the "search" to look for Dailies and see what I can find.

    Thanks again!

  11. Pros: Pretty ship, friendly crew. Thought the shows were good. The Na Pali coast sail by was beautiful. My DDs enjoyed the hula classes. Lei making was fun. Specialty restaurants were nice.

Cons: Food in the MDRs, small balcony cabin, tiny bathroom. (But you don't spend a lot of time in your cabin)
