  1. Dog house just has hot dogs/sausages and toppings. No fries or anything like that. There is a freestyle coke machine nearby.

One of our party went to La patisserie and was charged for desserts. They were pretty good, though. cruised on Anthem july 15-July 20th 2017

So the info posted on RCI website about La Patisserie being "included" is not the case. Everything will cost...food and coffee. Just want to be sure before I tell my cabin mate so she doesn't get "surprised" once on board.

  2. On the Getaway TA in April hubby found a wine he liked ....We sat and listened to howl at the moon for quite a few hours ....I went to bed .. he stayed up ... he came in quite late .....The next day a waiter smiled at him and saluted and kept on walking ...hubby then told me he had a very foggy memory of what happened after I left ....We caught up the the waiter later on and asked why he saluted my husband ....He said I am the guy that helped you to your room last night !!!!!! So apparently you can get quite drunk on a cruise ship !!!! Thank you Arturo ... We tipped him big the next time we ordered from him ( not wine ) and wrote out a hero card

My point exactly. If you cannot remember what you did the night before, then you should realize you had one too many drinks. :( So sad to see so many "adults" over drinking just because.

  3. You get the Dreamworks animals, and the area in front of the pub is where they do the flash mob dance, but it is a different layout so not really a promenade

  4. While at home, I may not drink at all some nights, others I will have one or two drinks.

Going out to a restaurant, DW and I will usually just drink one glass of wine each.

On cruises, we do drink more, of course we are in social setting meeting new people or cruising with family and or friends.

DW and I will usually consume 3-4 drinks a day, most wine.

I have seen posts here on cc (in fact many) of people that start drinking at breakfast and drink all day. One guy said he drank a case of beer a day. Even at Frat parties in college, I never did that.

I do remember one evening that I decided to go with vodka martinis (the big ones) before dinner. I had two and after wine with dinner, I was done. DW and I just went back to the cabin.

The beverage packages are probably encouraging more consumption.

    You think???

  5. The Anthem is a beautiful ship with lots of cool features and great decor. Comparing it to Allure, however, we found it crowded, especially in the Royal Promenade/Esplanade. The aisles are too small, and the pub and stalls in the middle of the promenade create bottlenecks. We felt the crowd much more on the Anthem than we did on the Allure, which carried more people.

Even on the Explorer there were always "sales" going on with tables placed outside the stores. You had to navigate the obstacle course to get from the back/front of the ship. Nothing new here.

  6. The UBP doesn't "cause" people to do anything. If it did, everyone would over indulge.

It does allow irresponsible people to over indulge.

As part of the Guest Contract, the guest is responsible for their actions. NCL doesn't force alcohol down anyone's throat.

If a drunken guest beats someone to a bloody pulp, the drunk (not NCL) could face a lawsuit and would probably lose.

IMO it should never reach the level where one person who has exceeded their own personal drink limit causes harm to another passenger with no provocation. While the UBP does not "force" anyone to drink over their own limit it does facilitate the process because their rationale to keep drinking is that they have the UBP and they intend to use it as much as humanly possible regardless.

  7. If those who have the UBP and who over indulge were ashore, the bar tender has a responsibility to cut them off. You probably think that even if a person falls down, starts fighting/being abusive is not reason enough to stop serving them.

Bad behavior, for whatever reason, should never be allowed on board and especially not at sea where passengers are a captive audience and can easily become victims of someone else's lack of responsibility/control.

  8. My two cents with regard to the drinking issue. We have been on the Breakaway four times, mostly in the Haven. But our last cruise -6/4 was by far the worst with drunk people. My husband is a smoker and a late nite gambler but not a drinker. The problem is that many of the younger people who drink to excess at either the O'Sheehans bar or the Bliss bar wander into the casino to smoke. Hubby said that some of them were so drunk, screaming and swearing and falling down, etc., that it was either leave the casino or get in a fight. I saw it one night that I was in the casino at 2am and it prompted me to leave. This was the only cruise we have seen it this bad. I think its the UBP offer and maybe NCL should re-consider that perk. I definitely saw first handed an increase in intoxicated people roaming around. As a mom, it is upsetting to see a girl fall down in a dress - so drunk that she needed to be picked up. It didn't ruin our vacation, but it definitely made us stay in the Haven more. Just my two cents based on MY experience. Not here to argue with anyone

Unfortunately for the non drinkers, it is indeed sad to see how drunk some of these "adults" get because of the drink packages offered. It wasn't just the younger passengers who acted crazy either. Perhaps there needs to be a cut off point of less drinks that will be given to an individual that are tracked via your room card to avoid situations like these. Eventually, someone will get seriously hurt or will hurt another passenger who has the misfortune to be nearby.

  9. Compared to the Gem, there is a lot more to do on the Breakaway and you will not be able to do it all!

When we first boarded, we never thought we would arrive at our cabin after boarding from the front of the ship and needing to go past midship. It felt like we walked from NY to NJ!!! But if you are located a little back from midship you are near all the food/dining rooms, elevators and even the buffet.

Getting off in Bermuda after the first day we found it easier to go to deck 6 and then walk to the front of the ship to take the elevator down rather than crossing deck 5 which starts out with a wide hallway and then narrows so much that you cannot fit 2 people across.

The Attrium has indoor chair hogs so be prepared :( to stand up for most of the evening activities that are held there.

  10. We will be on the Freedom over Halloween (transatlantic), and I was wondering the same thing. While I love Halloween, I'm not sure that I want to take up precious luggage space for costumes.

Really not necessary to bring a costume with you. By adding a few accessories to a pair of black or white slacks and a black or white top and a little imagination you can create a one of a kind "costume" that would not take up space in your luggage. :halo::evilsmile::cool:

  11. The longer they can keep you dangling for a reply, the more doubts you will have about your bid being too low...you then submit a higher bid not wanting to lose out.:D

Look at it this way...if no one purchased the cabin at its original price NCL wants to recoup as much money as it can and not just hope someone at the last minute who is desperate to get on the sailing will come along and say "Yeah" to whatever the actual cabin price is.

  12. I will be there, too.

Add 2 more to this sailing!!!

We had a great time with Halloween on Explorer with even the WJ being decorated from early in the morning, a Halloween parade (taped for later playback) with a contest for best costume and even a Trick or Treat party hosted by the cruise staff in one of the lounges (only about 45 minutes). Hoping Anthem will do a good job on our sailing! :D

  13. All your pre-cruise reservations as well as any made on the ship are stored in your folio in the ship's computer system (assuming they didn't screw things up [emoji45]). Your Seapass card is used to access that folio on the ship.

I plan on bringing my hard copy paper confirmation e-mails for everything I booked prior to our sailing just in case! :D Did the same thing on my May sailing on Breakaway and had no problems with NCL's computer system once we were on board.

  14. Found their shows to be boring and not funny at all. We no longer go to them.

Comedy shows (with only one performers) on Carnival are at least funny and geared to family or adults. Material is not the same for all the shows.

NCL should consider either bringing back Blue Man Group or adding another Cirque show (without dinner and free of charge).
