  1. My wife and I were double charged for the Lobster Shack on Half Moon Cay and we tried to get the error corrected onboard the Volendam.  The front desk representative advised me that should made a note on our account and a credit would be posted to our Visa once this double charge was reviewed.

We are now 15 days post cruise with no credit issued to our Visa card and I want to submit our documentation to Holland America HQ via email to resolve this issue. Does anyone have an email address where I could submit our receipt and onboard statement to Holland America?  Thank you.

Super specific issue here and I've failed to find relevant answers…

The HAL website CPP info page states:  "CPP Platinum is not available to residents of New York State, Quebec or Puerto Rico."

I have a booking approaching final payment (next week) and tried to add Platinum Cancellation Protection to it today.  My travel agent (and then subsequently I) was told that it couldn't be added because my home gateway is NYC.

    I live in New Jersey.

I do indeed have a booking via FlightEase to JFK post-cruise, but is this really about residency or is it about airports?  Anybody else have this problem of living within proximity of NY state but not being able to get cancellation protection if using NYC airports?

    Thanks for any insight!

    John

You should not have an issue since the insurance exclusion only applies to “residents” of New York.

  3. My wife and I are sailing for the first time with Holland America on November 19th to the Amazon.

We received an email this morning with our boarding time & group.  Do you have to arrive at that time or does Holland America allow passengers to board their ships earlier?  Thank you.

  4. I hope these 4000+ passenger ships are not a trend for Princess and they build at least one smaller ship with a capacity of 1500 passengers or less.

After cruising exclusively with Princess over the past 16 years my wife and I decided to take a look at the itineraries offered by Holland America on the Volendam which has a capacity of 1425 passengers.  We have decided to give them and book a 28 day cruise to the Amazon River.  They also have some fantastic itineraries to French Polynesia, Africa, etc. on this small ship.

We love Princess Cruises and hope they don’t become like Royal Caribbean   with a fleet of mega ships.

  5. My wife and I booked our first cruise on Holland America last week.  We can’t wait to try Holland America after cruising with Princess for the past 15+ years.

We submitted our brokerage statement to Holland America and we are wondering where on the website we could find our $250 shareholder benefit once it is approved.  Thank you.

  6. My wife and I have cruised 19 times and we are sailing with Holland America for the first time on 11/19/22 to the Amazon.

We are not big drinkers but are considering purchasing the Have It All package and would like to know if this package includes bottled water?  Thank you.

  7. Princess Cruises guests can now bid on stateroom upgrades as part of the cruise line’s newly introduced Princess Upgrade program. Launching on Sept. 6, Princess Upgrade is a bid-based syste that allows guests the opportunity to secure a coveted upgrade - to oceanview, balcony, deluxe balcony, mini-suite and even a full suite, according to a press release.

Upgrades will be available initially on five North America-based ships (Caribbean Princess, Discovery Princess, Enchanted Princess, Regal Princess and Ruby Princess), with plans to roll out fleetwide by the end of October.

“Upgrading is a popular request from our guests and we’re pleased to deliver a process that lets them improve their stateroom category by making an offer that fits their budget and lifestyle,” said Princess President John Padgett.

The Princess Upgrade process is simple—once the sailing is within the Final Payment period and full payment has been received, guests will receive an invitation to take part in the program and submit a bid – they can bid on any stateroom category that is above the one they are currently booked in. Guests can change or cancel their bid any time before it is accepted.

Sorry you're not joining us. I hope you have mild cases. I saw several people post on the roll call and Facebook threads saying that they had to cancel in the past couple of weeks for various reasons, including the woman who was organizing the meet and greet and several of the activities.

Thank you.  We are both starting to improve but still have weakness, coughs, and a sore throat.  We dodge a bullet for 2+ years but were exposed to someone at a family wedding last weekend.  Have a great cruise.  I hope someone was able to get our cancelled excursions in Greenland (RIB boat, fjord, home visit, and hot springs).

My wife and I have 3 different doses: AstraZeneca, Moderna, and then a Pfizer booster, because we got whatever we could get as quickly as possible (we’re Canadian BTW).  When I read the Princess FAQ it is a tad vague:

In a two-dose series, we accept mixed vaccine types only if at least two doses of an authorized vaccine were administered at least 28 days apart, with the last dose given at least 14 days before sailing. See question "Which COVID-19 vaccines will be accepted on board?" for a list of currently approved or authorized vaccines.

Does this mean we need two doses of the same vaccine?  It is confusing because they say they accept mixed doses but then say you need two doses of an authorized vaccine. I feel it should say “Two doses with any combination of authorized vaccines”.   The CruiseCritic guide to vaccine policies says this for Princess:

Acceptable Vaccines: Passengers can have two doses of Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Sinopharm or Sinovac; one dose of Johnson & Johnson; or mixed doses of AstraZeneca with Moderna or Pfizer; and mixed doses of Pfizer and Moderna.

Can someone please confirm that we will be fine to get on a Princess ship (for an Alaska cruise) with our mixed vaccine dosages?

Not trying to start a long discussion, just want to know if we meet the policy as it stands. Don’t want to go all that way and be denied boarding.  Thanks in advance!

My wife and I cruised with Princess in February from LA to Mexico and LA to Hawaii and had no issues with a J&J first dose and Pfizer booster.

So how does Carnival Corp compare to other large cruise corporations? Are they all in the same situation or is it just Carnival.

    https://investorplace.com/2022/06/ccl-stock-debt-economy-loom-over-carnival/

Carnival is the weakest of the three big cruise lines because it piled on debt buying new ships when times were good. Its size forced it to buy more debt to stay alive in 2020. It ended fiscal 2022 with almost $30 billion of long-term debt.

I tried to upgrade our cruise in August, I thought I could go with the fare they are advertising right now, today, and pay the difference , But when I tried the gal at Princess said I could not get that price because it was for new bookings only. When I read the fine print it said it was a Launch Fare. Which instead of $300 extra They wanted over $900.00

It seems that Princess is making it more and more difficult to re-fare a cruise.  For the past 20 years I would simply call about a lower price and it would be applied to my current booking but this year every time I have called they say the lower price is for “new bookings only.”  If I want the new price I need to re-book my cruise.

I assume it is due to the fact the Carnival Corporation is billions of dollars in debt and the old days of simply re-faring a cruise are over.

Help me understand why I am seeing such a huge price difference between cruises in 2022 and 2023?  I am hoping to book an Island or Emerald Princess Cruise around the British Isles for June 2023.  The starting prices are twice as much as the ones for the same cruise in August of 2022.  Any ideas?

Cruises are still going out in some cases at 50% capacity and the cost of food/fuel are skyrocketing. Without price increases to offset the loss of passengers and their overhead costs they simply can’t make a profit.

Carnival Corporation reported debt of $33.2 billion for the 4th quarter of 2021 and that increased to $34.9 billion for the first quarter of 2022.  If things don’t change in the near future the cruising industry as a whole is in big trouble.

  14. Between high fuel costs and ships sailing with in some cases 50% capacity due to ongoing COVID19 concerns the cruise lines are losing millions of dollars every quarter.

It is so bad that that Carnival Corporation (CCL) is in the process of selling Seabourn to raise capital.  Also the CCL 8K reports to the Securities & Exchange Commission paint a very bleak future for the cruise industry.
