  1. I recently used Uber for the first time in Houston and it worked great for me. What do you mean by "reliable"? Are you concerned there won't be drivers available? I'd be shocked if that happened but then could you just call a cab as a backup if something goes south? I see this as pretty low-risk.

  2. Canadians are properly described as aliens

I find the term "alien" a little off-putting. It makes me feel unwelcome. Would "non-American", or "non-us citizen" be such a problem to use instead? Seems a bit more accurate and respectful.

I was born in the US but hold a Canadian passport, being called an alien and woken up hours before everyone else for a redundant process that is then repeated when I leave the ship makes me feel unwanted and so I won't be sailing out of Jacksonville again...and now perhaps Tampa as well.

  3. Happened to us in Tampa too. Just when we thought we were your Canadian cousins, you called us aliens and ordered us around at 7 a.m. Huh. You think we Canadians have weapons in our suitcases after a cruise? Dudes. Many of us in Canada still go to sleep at night without locking our doors.

I sailed out of Tampa earlier this year and that didn't happen to us, it was like any other port

  4. cowman, we are talking about 2 completely different things. The OP is talking a about buying a Cloud 9 package, owned by CCL. The Spa services like massage and hair are owned by Steiner International.

Different parts of the spa are owned by different comanies? That's confusing. How's a casual cruiser to know that?

  5. ???

Not sure what part you're asking about...prebooked a fire and ice treatment on Carnival.com, spa refused to provide the service instead gave some inferior massage thing, Carnival said they couldn't do anything about it because the spa was a separate company, spa said Carnival only gives them vague info on prebookings...I hope that answered whatever your question was...

  6. We're planning to take the 4 night Baja out of Los Angeles itinerary. There's one leaving on the 20th (Imagination) and one leaving on the 21st (Inspiration).

Could someone explain to me the difference or is it the exact same cruise, just different ships? And if so, which ship would you recommend & why?

Sorry, I'm sure I'm asking all the wrong questions, but I've never cruised before and while I'm a very experienced traveler, this is all new to me. And of course, I'd like to book this evening, so time is of the essence.

The ships are the same class which means they're the same size and were made around the same time. I've sailed on both and haven't really noticed a big difference between the two. You'll have a blast either way - go with what works better for your schedule or whichever's cheaper! :)

  7. I'm currently on night 2 of my 7 day cruise with Carnival and I was wondering if any past Glory cruiser experienced the "dinnertime" performance? Does it depend on the restaurant?

    [/url]

It's pretty consistent fleet-wide you'll get a performance every night in the MDR except for the first night.

  8. Be careful buying spa services on the carnival website - they are separate companies and the spa doesn't always honor what you booked with carnival. I recommend booking on board so you're actually communicating with the right company.

  9. We don't really want to do any of the tours. Are there cabs that can take you into town to shop? We just want to shop and maybe have lunch there.

You can walk to shopping. I like going to Tacos Del Sol to eat - margharita and pulled pork nachos is like $8

  10. Is there anything on this ship where it looked like they tried to "trick" you into buying something, and the advertisement, etc. was false?

Anything else that a person needs to be warned of?

It wasn't an issue with the Glory but on the Paradise the MDR wait staff would ask "would you like water?" and if you say yes just expecting some plain ice water they rush back with a bottle of water and open it before you can say anything. We told them that wasn't what we wanted and they reversed the charge.

Also not on the Glory but recently on the Dream the spa didn't honor pre-purchased services and they made a bunch of false charges on people's cards.

That's 2 things in my 12 carnival cruises, by and large it's all on the up and up.

  11. What is the best port to leave from port Carnaval or maimi?

Miami has more options but Orlando has more cool stuff to do. You said you like Disney so I'd suggest Orlando and see if you can squeeze in a Disney park before and/or after. It's what I did last year, we did EPCOT after sailing on the Carnival Sunshine. Good times.

Why is Carnavial cruises soooo much cheaper what's wrong with them?

I've always sailed with Carnival and never had a serious issue beyond a luggage delay and some bad service at the spa but that's like 2 issues in 12 sailings. I think they're cheaper because they have like 25 ships unlike Disney for example that only has 4.

  12. Either want to see the blow hole or do a wine tour. Anyone been here lately?

"blow hole" is a bit of a misnomer. It's not really a hole, it's more like a crevice that ocean waves crash against and up. Don't get me wrong, it's a good excursion but I was expecting a "blow hole" too and what I got, while good, wasn't quite what I expected...
