  1. sparks1093 - from the OP it reads that they do not bring any type of ID at all when they are in port, just the S&S. Wearing it around you're neck does make you more of a target. You want to do your part to be safe while in port.

  2. If you're concerned about bringing the original.....maybe a photocopy?

When I was Oasis 4 years ago, they made an announcement that we needed to bring ID. And if we were not American, they said to bring our passports........

  3. Not being mean.....but why would you leave the ship without some sort of ID in a foreign country? What if you lose your S&S card?......just a question.......as a Canadian I feel more comfortable bringing my passport into the ports......

  4. Depends on the port you are visiting. Some ports will ask for both ID and S&S card and how the port is set up. Example if you are going to visit the Carnival's private island then no need. St. Thomas, if I'm not mistaken, when you leave the ship you walk through a gate and then to the port where stores are, etc. You will need some sort of ID to re-enter the gated area to get back on the ship. There are signs stating ID is required.......

  5. I don't think you could go wrong with either cruise line. I have been on both and loved all my cruises. If your kids like or would like to try "surfing", RCI do have flow rider, and rock climbing and ice skating (on certain ships). But other than that they have similar stuff like mini golf, sports court, ping pong......

  6. I do prefer the food on RCI a little more than Carnival (I have been o Oasis and Freedom with RCI and Glory with Carnival) because they do have the Promenade cafe 24 hours so you can grab a small sandwich or dessert when you walk by. And Windjammer I found better because the layout and the wide variety of foods (they actually served congee, an Asian breakfast food on Freedom and it was delicious and usually half gone by the time I get there for breakfast). But Freedom does have rock climbing, mini golf, parades for kids, ice skating, surf rider.

  7. I kind of see that you may have a preference for Carnival ships. What tells me that...............

Anyway, are there specific reasons why you travel only on Carnival? Are you employed by them or do you just prefer this line?

Considering trying them for the first time and would like to get a first hand prospective.

I have been on three cruises. Two with Royal Caribbean and one with Carnival. I was on Glory this past December and loved it. My family and I decided on Carnival because of price and the itinerary is not offered with RCI. The only thing I wish Glory had was more food alternatives (like more ethnic foods, RCI will have a different ethnic food every day in their buffets) and more beverage package options (RCI has more packages).

  8. Hi,

Can you please tell me how you upgrade your room to the spa balcony? I will have my first cruise with the NCL Getaway coming up and want to see if I can upgrade from inside room to the one with balcony.

    Thanks in advance.

I do want to know too. Our cruise is not until November though. I know that my parents do not want to pay more than couple of hundred more if they can upgrade to an oceanview or balcony.

  9. I will have it for the first time on my upcoming Splendor cruise in the fall. I'm excited to board after the Platinum, drop off our carryon bags in our cabin, and head for lunch before the huge crowds. That was my main reason for trying it this time....not the lunch part, just the expedited boarding and the cabin being ready :)

Same here! We bought it just for that reason! Lol

  10. We had FTTF on our first Carnival cruise in December. To pay the little for our cabin was great! We barely waited at the port for security and check-in. We probably waited half an hour before boarding started. We dropped off our stuff in our cabin and went straight to lido for lunch. We had priority line up at GS, which was awesome as these lines were really short. We had priority disembarking.

  11. Just got off my first Carnival cruise on the Glory. We had the FTTF. We had a quicker security and check-in time than priority and platinum and diamond. There was no one in line at the FTTF check-in. We did wait with the general boarding but they were checking S&S card when they called FTTF to board.

It was nice to drop our carry-on bags off in our rooms before getting lunch. The Lido deck was busy but too busy.
