  1. We just did a B2B on the Edge.  One week in Aqua and the 2nd week in a S3 (out first time in Aqua & a suite).  The first week my husband bought an Apple watch and the 2nd week I bought an Apple watch.  It was the same price as on land but we didn't have to pay the sales tax.  We were wondering what we would spend the OBC on and then the iLounge came to mind!

  2. When we were sailing on the Edge, we used the Celebrity app to message each other a few times.  It was still in Beta so it didn't "ding" so you had to look for your message.  They said they were working on the "ding" for notifications.  When we went to different places, it was convenient to ask where are you? or where should we meet?  I wasn't thrilled about carrying around my phone but I liked having all the info about the ship's happenings.  You can look up all the menus on the app, too.  Also book tours on your phone.  No more booking on the TV.

As we are half way through the cruise I figure I should give a mini cruise update.

Cabin 10107 Sky Suite - Storage is excellent. I live the bed facing the window. The mattress is firm. Very firm. Personally I love that but I realize it might not be everyone’s cup of tea.

The temperature only goes down to 66. It doesn’t really feel like 66, feels like it should be a bit colder but it’s not uncomfortable by any means. I just prefer ice cold when I sleep. Even in cold Chicago our A/C turns on at night to keep it around 63 so I’m an anomaly with regard to that.

Cleanliness of Cabin. Ship is brand new so obviously the room is clean. The shower provides some cleaning challenges. There is a soap dish of sorts that is fixed to the tub. It fills up with water with no where to drain. Cabin attendant always has it dry after cleaning but is just a design flaw. Also the shower current material is starting to discolor already at the base. I suspect they’ll be changing these out a lot.

I love the separate door for the toilet in the bathroom. The long vanity is beautiful.

I hate how the mirror fogs up so quickly. Really wish they had fog free mirrors or better ventilation. There is also no place to hang your towel within easy reach of the shower. Though the bathroom isn’t all that big so it’s not like you’re running across a room for a towel, it is noticeable.

I love the vanity area. While I’m not putting on make up haha, it makes for a great space to place my watch, clothes, etc as I’m getting ready.

The storage on both sides of the sink is wonderful. Products are easily displayed so you know where everything is and the shelf heights are perfect for bathroom products.

We did a B2B on the Edge.  1st week in Aqua and the bathroom mirrors were heated so no fogging, very nice.  2nd week in a S3 suite and the mirrors fogged up as you said.  Suites should have fog-free mirrors.  We had the leaking tub/shower problem in the suite.  We learned to make a dam with towels along the edge of the tub so the water wouldn't roll over the edge and flood the bathroom.  The cabin attendant told us he left extra beach towels in the bathroom so we could place them on the floor due to the water. Passengers shouldn't have to do that!  The shower curtain was useless and they hadn't added the strip yet to prevent the water from leaking over.  Other than that, I really liked the size of the bathroom.  But preferred the shower in Aqua with the shower panel and sprays.

  4. I agree with all the sea sick remedies that have been recommended.  One time while cruising I was feeling sea sick and couldn't eat dinner.  The waiter brought me Bonine (or whatever they have on the ship) and CLASSIC coca cola.  Not diet cola.  I was feeling better by dessert time.  I was amazed it worked so quickly.

If we want to talk about “germ incubators”, the serving utensils at every station, in every dish of food is at the top of my list. I have seen people standing in line waiting to serve themselves eating food off their plates with their fingers, then picking up the serving utensils! But I digress...

Back to the enlightening discussion of the Edge. 😁

Yes, that is gross.  That is why we have to wash again before eating.  It's a pain in the neck, but if we eat in the buffet area, it goes with the territory.  Cruising with so many people in close contact is a risk for getting sick.  But we can try to stay healthy on our vacation.

  6. C-Dragons:  "The best defense is hand washing", so true.  If people don't believe that, Google it and find all the germs that don't get killed by sanitizers.  I probably will be one of those people going back to the washing station to wash again before eating. Yes, I am a hand washing fanatic but maybe because I"m a nurse.  If people see others using the hand washing station, they may realize it's a good idea and use it, too...herd mentality.

  7. I think the hand washing station is a great idea.  I can do a better job of getting my hands clean than with gel.  Also, some germs are not killed with hand sanitizers.  Having said that, I carry my own gel and use it after getting food and before eating.  Re: the handles being a germ incubator...use a paper towel to turn the water off like you do in any public restroom.

  9. Hi,

Just got off the Eclipse and was told by the Future Cruise Reps that the Magic Carpet will be controlled by the bridge.

Passengers and crew WILL NOT be on it when it's moving.

Here's what the info sheet on the Magic Carpet says:

    Highlights:

-An innovative and transformative floating platform

-Majestically situated along the starboard side of the ship

-Magic Carpet travels 13 stories high and rests on decks 2,5,14,16

-A spectacular place to take in breathtaking views

-Magic Carpet is close to 110 feet long, 20 ft wide, the size of a tennis court

-Operated without guests by the bridge officer from the bridge wing

Majestically situated on the starboard side of the ship, making Edge's sleek profile recognizable from miles away. The Magic Carpet is designed with comfortable seating, a full bar, and space for live music performances, so truly a destination itself. This spectacular space opens to several decks and transforms into a new and exiting venue depending on which deck it's positioned.

Let's start at the very top(there isn't a deck here, which makes it even more thrilling). When positioned here, the MC becomes an extraordinary venue high in the sky where we host mouthwatering experiences such as Dinner on the Edge. Get ready for a unique, al fresco culinary journey that satisfies your taste buds, your eyes, and your sense of wonder all at the same time.

Down to Deck 14, the MC becomes an extension of the relaxing main pool area, the perfect place for breathtaking views, tantalizing libations, and live music.

When on Deck 5, the MC serves as an extension of one of our exciting new restaurants, Raw on 5. Here it creates an intimate, open air dining experience that makes the fresh ocean fare taste even fresher.

At the bottom on Deck 2, the MC becomes an extension of the Destination Gateway, a new area that becomes a luxury embarkation station where guests will be whisked away aboard our newly reimagined Edge Launches that offer bucket seats, air conditioning, large windows for stunning sea-level views, and more space--all designed to get you to your destination in modern luxury style.

  10. I'm not making a recommendation for the 80yo woman. But something that worked for me years ago when I felt very seasick was Meclizine and Classic Coke. (not diet) I went to dinner but couldn't eat and you know how the waiters like to bring you food.

Our waiter brought me the pills and Classic Coke and by dessert I felt better and could eat. I was very surprised it worked since it's best to take the meds before feeling sick.

  11. We just cruised to Alaska RT from Seattle on Aug 29th on the Solstice. I have a tendency to get seasick but was lucky, I felt great the whole cruise. Years ago I was seasick on a Caribbean cruise and felt too nauseous to eat dinner. Our waiter brought me Dramamine and a Classic Coke and by dessert I could eat. It has to be Classic Coke not diet.
