  1. From Hobby to Galveston has improved dramatically. The widening or the addition of 3 lanes in each direction is about 90% complete.

Now from Bush Intercontinental... lookout. From the airport to DT isn't too bad but from DT to Hobby area, wowza. It's really backed up pretty much all day.

Personally speaking, I would not rent a car. I would take the shuttle and/or a Uber/Lyft. But that's me. Speaking of ride share, both Uber and Lyft are operating in Galveston now as the state of Texas took the reins of regulation from all local municipalities.

  2. So if what I'm reading is correct, one person in the cabin who likes to drink alcohol can get the alcohol package and the other person can opt out. The second person can claim to not want any alcohol (but really be lying, in this hypothetical scenario) and the first person can get as many drinks as he wants and share them with the second person - for free. That's why I thought anyone over 21 in the same cabin had to buy the same package. What am I missing?

Everything if this is what you got/understand after reading this thread.

  3. Who cares if they leave the cabin?

    How far can they go???

This speaks as if you have no kids. No kids means no worriying. But you asked two questions.

    1. I care. My wife cares. All of our fellow neighboring cruiser cares. Even the cruisers we'll never meet that are located on a different floor, they care.

    2. Busting curfew at 1am on a cruise ship, anywhere they go is too far.

Whether at home or on a vaction, life is full of rules and consequences. It is not a responsible person, adult, or cruiser that offers the type of response as you have. I think you know this. But based on your set of questions, I also think you don't know how to apply the concept of personal responsibility.

  4. The DoT PDF I linked above says:

"passengers requiring an accessible cabin should be provided the same pricing options available to passengers who do not require an accessible cabin"

This means that if Royal Caribbean offers a reduced rate GTY pricing option to normal passengers, they need to offer the same pricing option to people requiring an accessible stateroom.

Am I the only one reading that this way?

This is BS. If you want a specific cabin book it. If I wanted 1100 corner aft balcony, I book it. If I book a GTY cabin and don't 1100, I can't complain. I had the opportunity.

  5. ....and despite the "let me get in your business" blowhards on these boards you will never see anyone arrested for theft either. In fact, you will never see anyone's beverage package revoked for stealing soda. Ever. Because it is NOT theft & RCL does not consider it to be theft.

I find an individual to be pretty sick and warped that would sit in a Jason's Deli and suspect 90% of the people at the salad bar to be theives.

  6. Yea, go ahead and use your drink package for your kids, or just get one package and share with the whole family. You are the reason the cruise lines now have put into effect that if one person gets a drink package everyone in the cabin has to purchase one. It might only be a few drinks here or there for the kids or spouse but it is stealing and you can provide all the reasons you want to make it sound better, but it is still stealing and the honest people are paying for it. Can't imagine you would be happy your kids went to the store and just took a can of coke without paying but that is what you are doing. Just saying!!

Thank you in advance honest person.

BTW, has anyone ever bought a bottle of wine on board? Would honest people consider it to be 'stealing' if I shared the bottle with table mates or family?

Also has any honest person brought on board cases of water as a carry on? Since it's against the RCL policies, would it be considered 'stealing' if I was able to have them delivered to my room and then share a few w/ family members?

How about a case of soft drinks? Would honest people consider it stealing if it was delievered to my room and I 'shared' it with my family members?

    Also honest person,

TIP: if you call RCL and tell them that you only want to buy one package, they will make for you an exception. They do this only for honest people that call them.

  7. I'm not cheap and I tip quite well.

However, I think it's very reasonable for one to be unhappy about having to tip a vending machine. I don't tip vending machines on land. Why should I have to on a ship? And where does it end? I think that's the main issue. Will we eventually have to start tipping the salaried crew members like the captain?

I saw a poster mentioned that the "tips" supposedly go to a crew "welfare fund." Here's a novel idea: Perhaps the cruise line should should take care of "welfare" for their employees in times of emergencies? The company I work for does. Now obviously, that cost ultimately gets passed on to the customer. And that's fine. But things like that should be factored into the fare. Not with a surcharge to the passenger. A surcharge that one cannot plan for when pricing out their vacation, unless of course they have been on the ship in the past and are aware that they will also be required to tip vending machines. The vast majority of the population would not expect to incur such a charge.

Deceptive "gratuities" like this allow the cruise line to keep fares low while hiding the actual cost of the trip to the customer. If you think that's a good business practice, I've got a used car to sell you.

Don't take it personal, the 'cheap guy' comment came from a poster that has a history of name calling and insulting other posters he/she doesn't agree with. You're just one of many. Like the 18% gratuity/fee/service charge, the insulter isn't going away anytime soon either.

  8. Absolutely!!!

As much as I have an opinion about you, I don´t care what you think about me. It´s all good.

Well I guess it´s good for you to put your ethics low enough to make yourself think you are an honest person, would be really hard to look in the mirror otherwise. So I´m happy for you to being comfortable with yourself:)

No worries, I´m well aware of it.

Shakes head and just moves on. Such is the life on the Cruise Critic boards.

  9. Thanks everyone for the replies! I am about the most honest person out there, so if I implied I wanted to steal anything from anyone, including Royal Caribbean, I apologize. Paying upwards of $800 for drink packags and my conscience is very clear! I didn't realize that the juice and water were free in the WJ and that I could take a to go cup. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I would just say this: as someone who has an incredibly stressful job, I come on this site to read, research and, quite honestly, get EXCITED about my upcoming vacation. I bet others do too. Be nice to each other. Life is too short and vacations are too few and far between!

Have a wonderful cruise making memories!

  10. You can find all excuses you want for making yourself feel better about your theft, but it will still be dishonest and theft to do so, but you will still do it anyways. So as I have to live with the fact that I share the same ship with thieves, you have to live with the fact how the honest people think about you.

You think I'm a theif. So what. To me it just shows how ridiculously shallow & insecure you are. I'm very comfortable w/ myself and who I am. I'm a honest, courteous, friendly cruiser that is constantly on the prowl for another goodtime. BTW, be careful out there... the ship is full of cruisers like me.
