  1. We were in a RS on the Reflection. Our Butler had Suites on 3 levels including Penthouse, several Royal Suites, several Celebrity Suites and some Sky Suites on three decks. The passengers in the Penthouse were full on a holes and repeatedly complained that the Butler was not there full time for them. Butlers certainly do not have enough time to do “Butler” things.

  2. Again, it's the lack of disclosure that's irksome. Prospective guests deserve to be notified when significant work projects may impact the amenities and quality on offer. I might have reconsidered the Alaska cruise recently booked for this summer had this been disclosed, especially since my GTY fare choice opens the possibility of being placed directly below this work.

Being on this cruise I did not find the work on the deck to be a problem. When we arrived in our stateroom we had a letter stating that there would be work done on the deck. Fortunately this was done during the most inclement, cold, and rainy weather possible. We would not have been enjoying the deck area in that weather. The outside bars were open but few people wanted to be outside. As soon as the Patio was open we went out and had Lunch. It was cold and your food was cold within minutes of receiving it. We did force ourselves to eat lunch there 3 times, all with the parka, hat and gloves. There is no way I would have tried dinner in that cold environment. Seabourn made a great decision to try and repair the deck especially as the cold, wet, weather already made it unusable. If you want to sunbathe and enjoy eating outside, maybe choose a cruise other than a northern pacific one.

  3. I am sure they will replace the Charlie Brown tree. The others are good specimens and should remain. So much better than having Palm Trees while sailing Alaska. Didn’t know we could also have Crepe Suzette at tea as we have not attended the teas. Seabourn has done well on this cruise considering it is a very inexpensive repositioning Cruise. On repositioning cruises we always expect some maintenance and adjustments in the itinerary and this happened. Food and entertainment is better than on the Quest last year. We will book again on Seabourn.

  4. We found the Porch to be open for Lunch even in Port. The Lawn Grill was open for Lunch on all of the sea days. The menu in the Porch is the same for Lunch and Dinner with the same surcharge. The menu in the Lawn Grill is different for Lunch with hamburgers and fish sandwiches. The salad bar is there for Lunch and Dinner. When we were in a RS last cruise we often went to the Porch and had their Lobster Bisque and seafood tower. They also have a hamburger if you don’t want seafood. If we wanted a simple, light dinner we would go to the Lawn Club for salad and flatbread. Flatbread is not available for Lunch.

  5. Have you eaten in the Grill this voyage? My understanding is that we can get reservations once during a voyage 7 or 50 days. Once was enough for us though the food was good. Everyone we spoke to about last night in the Collonade says it was the best. The salad with apple and candied walnuts was wonderful. The mashed potatoes were to die for and the broccoli I was cooked just right. We like our steak medium rare so that was also cooked perfectly. Didn’t care for the chocolate pie as it was too sweet for me. How did the epicurean event go?

  6. Sorry about your reservation, was it for the Grill? If I had one I would gift it to you. We plan to go to the Alaskan dinner in the Collonade. Last nights rib eye dinner there was one of the best aboard. The “Unexpected Boys” show last night was as great as the first so I hope you were able to enjoy it. They also did a show for the crew after ours, hope Sophie schedules them again tomorrow.

  7. We were at the Collonade for breakfast around 8:30 and there were very few people there. It must have been your timing to encounter the crowds. I was glad we were able to get in to see the Hubbard Glacier in todays perfect weather. The bear we saw on shore was an added plus. We have eaten at the Patio three times for Lunch when there was no wind.

On our last transatlantic on the Quest the heaters in the Patio area were not enough to keep us warm.

  8. We are currently on a 21 day transpacific, Kobe to Vancouver. No need for shorts, it is cold. Kobe was warm, however, from there you sail north and it gets colder. The highest temperature we have seen is 52 and often it was closer to 40. If we add the winds you can imagine the cold. The Patio is open but those brave folks are hunkered down in Seabourn parkas, hats and blankets. Question, is there a Seabourn South Pacific crossing? There would be totally different weather down south.

  9. We are taking our 7 year old on Celebrity Equinox in August. It will be his 7th cruise, but first on X. We did DCL in 2015 and it was money wasted IMHO. He was 4.5 years old and DCL was clean, kind, bright and kid oriented, but he was scared of the characters and only spent 1 hour in the kids club. The pools on DCL were ALWAYS packed because it seemed like some kid pooped in one pool or another each day and that meant ALL the passengers had to be in one small pool. I swear I walked from one side of the pool to the other and never got wet because I just stepped on people's heads.

We have had our son on NCL 4 times already. Personally, I like NCL the best, but I have been cruising on NCL since the mid 90s.

I am glad to hear that people are raving about the kids club on X. Hopefully we can convince him to go and spend a few hours each day.

I have seen somewhere that X has an "adults only" show. I guess it is kind of cirque style. It is the ONE show that he wants to see while on the ship. He has been attending broadway style musicals since he was 1.5 years old and sits quietly, in awe, of the performance. He understands that performers may not always wear the same type (or amount) of clothing that we normally wear also. Unless the performers are fully nude or having sex on the stage, I would like for him to be able to attend. Has anyone had any experience with the "adult only" show?

Kids are not kept from the cirque show. There are restrictions of where they can sit for this and other shows. Kids are restricted from shows with adult language or adult comedy.

  10. We are on the Seabourn Sojurn transpacific from Kobe to Vancouver. We lost an hour most days. The Captain has us turn the clocks ahead at 2 pm. This works great. When you lose an hour it’s easier done in the middle of the day. No lost sleep for the crew or passengers. If we are going westbound transatlantic on Celebrity, it has always been done at night. No problem with an extra hour of sleep!

  11. It’s good that Celebrity has not opened the Luminae to Zenith passengers. Especially on the Reflection, the Luminae gets very busy. Michaels, in our opinion, is entirely too crowded. The extra Suites and the added Zenith passengers on transatlantic really add to the overcrowding. It’s a shame as we love the Reflection, but they should have expanded Michaels Club and the Luminae with the added Suites. When most passengers have a drink package, overcrowding of Michaels is not a problem.

  12. We were on our eighth Silhouette sailing on January 7 and it was also our eighth sailing on her in AQ. The previous 7 experiences dining in BLU were excellent. On this sailing, I sent back my entrée three of the seven evenings. On the last evening our waiter told us how important it was to give him a 10 on the survey. I responded while he deserved a 10 for excellent service, there was no way food was getting a 10. He replied if I didn't give the food a 10, it would be viewed as a reflection on him and I should also give the food a 10 but I could then write my feedback in the comments section. Needless to say, that is not what I did.

So on our January 2019 Silhouette sailing, with the fantastic rate we received from our TA booking a standard balcony, we'll use the difference we saved over booking AQ and make Specialty dining reservations for the entire cruise.

Did you have the same waiter each night in Blu? That has never happened to us. If we had a bad waiter, we would steer away from him on future nights. May not have loved all entrees in Blu but never went hungry. Luminae is much the same.

  13. We liked everything about the Royal Suite except the balcony. It is very cramped with the bathtub taking up too much room. We also had a lot of sun so the temp on the balcony was 90 degrees plus on a transatlantic. We used the balcony when we had some shade and that wasn’t often.

  14. “Deplorable” is an extremely negative word for what you describe was Seabourn handling of an air traffic controller strike. Did you check to see if any “day” rooms were available yourself? I believe the strike may have filled most hotel rooms. If a hotel can rent the room for 24hours, they will do that before a 10-12 hour stay. Did you have insurance that covers trip delays? There is a chance they may cover a strike and give you something for your hours at the airport

I hope the cruise itself was not deplorable.

  15. Both the Royal and Penthouse Suites do not have deep balconies. If fact, the RS has a large bathtub with jets on the balcony. We have never used it and it takes up precious space. I imagine on the new edge class ships something will be done to improve the balconies for the upper level Suites. I definitely could not see cooking on the balcony being feasible or safe.

  16. On our present sailing, Kobe to Vancouver, most men wear jackets with striped dress shorts in the evening, almost a uniform but they look good. We had many tuxedos on our first formal night but the ladies wore knee length dressy dresses. I don’t recall any ankle length dresses. The restaurants are well air conditioned so the men are comfortable in their jackets

  17. I have no idea where the bugs came from. They said they must have come in from the balcony but we never left our balcony doors open. The only time those doors were open is when we went in and out. I know people who leave the balcony doors open to hear the ocean. Not us. We enjoy our air conditioning too much.

Bet you can thanks one of your neighbors(including the ones above and below you). Bugs go through the ventilation system. This would have ruined the cruise for me as I have an extreme dislike and fear of bugs!

  18. When did your luggage go missing? I would not leave the side of the ship without all of our luggage. We were delayed once as the Celebrity tag had come off one bag. No help from Celebrity but we kept walking through the baggage area and found it in an unrelated baggage belt. We have not had missing luggage from the airlines but we always allow time for connections and arrive at least two days before sailing. Dublin sounds like a port to avoid. The one time we missed a ship was when we traveled Delta to Santiago. Our connecting flight to Atlanta was delayed landing due to Thunderstorms. This did not keep our flight to Santiago from departing 20 minutes earlier than scheduled. The flight was overbooked so once they filled the plane, off it went leaving about 20 passengers stranded in Atlanta. We had to wait a full 24 hours for the next Delta flight. The twenty of us stranded caughted the ship three days later at Arica. Now we always arrive days before the ship departure.
