  1. Lots of great info on here. When we went on our 10 year anniversary cruise we left the notarized letter giving my in-laws temporary guardianship. I think we even extended it one week past our expected return in case something happened. This also gave them permission to seek medical attention.

We let my in-laws know where any paperwork was in case something happened to us and they needed to make arrangements for us.

I let the school know that my in-laws would have the kids and provided contact information for them in case of an emergency at school.

I left a notebook with quick notes of morning/evening routines. Where items could be found if needed. Dosages for medications, such as acetaminophen, etc. Phone numbers and addresses for doctors and the hospital. How to care for the dogs.

I think that was about it.

Yep, good info...i think I will be set to make sure everyone is prepared :)

  2. You weren't very specific, about who was watching the kids. Family, or some hired person off the street.

The very obvious thing, is your phone number. You do have a mobile phone right? If something happens, you can be reached. The other item is the ship phone number as a back-up.

Personally, I would never just allow someone to make medical decisions without my consent first, unless it was an on the spot, this moment incident.

You seriously think we would allow a stranger watch our children.....wow.

No, several family members will be overseeing the care of our children!

Yes we arent cavemen and have cellphones but they will be in airplane mode a majoirty of the time, so I will make sure several people have the ships emergency number just incase. And i trust in my family that they can make sound decisions for our children while we are gone otherwise I wouldnt be going.

My kids are pretty heatlhy so we shoildnt have much to worry about inless they become seriously ill or are in an accident, which I pray does not happen.

  3. notarized letters stating who can make medical decisions for the kids and what dates. Leave contact info for any close neighbors/friends, parents, in laws, pediatrician. We usually leave local info too like nearest hospital, non emergency police number, go over stuff in the house (where breaker panel is. Where main water shutoff is). Find out the emergency contact number for the ship you are on and leave your cabin number too.
    All good things thanks

  4. Only you know what your situation is, who you are leaving your kids with and the needs of your kids. Some kids will just go with the flow and others won't. If it is someone they are used to, then you need to leave very few instructions. If it is someone they aren't as familiar with, you are going to leave detailed instructions.

Are you communicating with the caregiver during the week or are you going under the radar for the week?

It is a fine line because people on this board are always called out if they give parenting advice.

Im not asking for parenting advice...i jist want to have things in place in case of an emergency with one of the kiddos while we are gone....I found the info I needed above.

  5. We used to write down all health info/providers and their contact info as well as health insurance info along with the written permission. Also include any contact info for you - ship name, cabin number, itinerary, etc.

We also left similar info for our pets so that if there is an emergency there is no doubt who and where to call or go.

Oh good idea, we have 2 dogs too they will be taking care of while we are gone

  6. Give them the emergency number for the ship, just in case. Make sure whoever is caring for them (grandparents?) have the insurance card and permission to make medical decisions.....call your pediatrician and let them know, too. That's about it! Go and have some "couples" fun!
Ok great, and thank you...we hope to have lots of fun!

How do I find out what the emergency number is for the ship?

  7. We did 2 years ago, my kiddos were 4 and 6. We planned on walking around port to check out the market and shops then swim at margaritaville, but it was an overcast day with a little rain here and there. We still walked around and shopped a little. We checked out Margaritaville but didn't go swimming because it was chilly so we went back on the ship for lunch and took a little nap. The sun was then out so we swam on the ship a little bit before sail away and then got ready for dinner.

  8. make sure you pack various types of over the counter meds for your kiddos too. Like childrens ibuprofen, children's cold medicine, children's Dramamine and pepto.

not sure how old your kiddos are but we did family time dining so we let the wait staff know we were family time dining, they had our kiddos fed in 45 min or less every night then we met Adventure Ocean staff at main dining room entrance so the adults could enjoy the rest of the dinner and go to the shows or whatever.

Bring LOTS of sunscreen and sunglasses for your kiddos. Sunburn cream too just in case.

  9. I can tell you that on Adventure, no one we have talked with will allow only one person in the stateroom to get the Deluxe drink package. However, they are offering to allow the second person to get the soda package.

While on board? Because when I called to book, I asked if I could get the soda package and hubby get the deluxe package and I was told no......so I guess I am drinking it up every day :) Although Hubby will most likely make up for what I dont drink.

  10. We are considering a cruise in Sept on Adventure of the Seas. Have never been on this class of ship before. What are the Promenade view rooms like' date=' especially the noise level. What decks would be best for this type of room?[/quote']

I have been in a Promenade room 2x now on a sister ship. We are actually in one again on our upcoming sailing on Adventure here in May. I enjoy people watching from the windows, gives me something to look at and makes the room feel a bit bigger vs an interior room without any windows or anything (the promenade rooms are a tiny bigger). The noise(music) usually ends around 11/11:30 every night. We typically go to sleep later than that on a cruise(unless we have the kiddos) so it doesn't bother us. If we decided to go to be earlier than that it would be because we are exhausted and the noise wouldn't bother us anyways!

  11. If you use a scooter, or stroller, don't run over the heels of people in front of you.

Don't use the tongs at the buffet and toss them into the food.

Don't stand in front of a serving dish on the buffet and hold up the line calling to others in your party to come get in front of you.

Don't assume and make nasty comments that someone should use the stairs if only going up 2 floors because they "look perfectly healthy."

Don't monopolize the time with the waitstaff or cabin attendant chit-chatting. They truly want to be pleasant, but they have a job to do with time constraints.

Don't leave piles of clothes and junk all over the cabin, including the very limited floor space that the steward has to try to clean and vacuum around.

If you hog chairs or loungers at the pool or the theaters, people will report you.

And those in scooter's don't assume they have the right away....

  12. Family time dining is done during the early seating of dinner. You would tell your wait staff that you are signed up for the family time dining then they would make sure your kiddos would have everything under the sun that they wanted to eat in about 45 min. Then at a certain time, I forget which it is, maybe 6:30 you would meet adventure ocean staff in front of the main entrance of the dinning room. You would sign your kiddo in for adventure ocean there on a clip board they have. Then you can go back in and enjoy the rest of your dinner. At least this is how it was for us almost 2 years ago with our kiddos and it worked out perfectly.
