  1. Not sure what "trip reports" is.

Or is that just a member review on this site?

I have never actually taken the time to put together a review.

I have never done one either. Its just a summary of all that went on, highs and lows, day by day of your trip. I am grateful for what you have shared with us so far as we will be boarding the Dawn this coming Sunday. Did they have any decent movies to watch either in room or somewhere on ship? Was it hard to get a spot by the pool? Did you do any shore excursions and if so was there one in particular that was definitely worth the money?

  2. Wanted to bump this thread back to the front b/c a bunch of us will be on the Dawn 12/7 to 12/14 as part of a CET 7 star event. I also would be interested in hearing from anyone who just got off the 11/23 to 11/30 Dawn Cruise who were part of a similar 7 star group. How was the pre cruise party at Harrah's NOLA? And in general what were the overall experience and what can we expect?

Both on the cruise and in regards to the ports of call. Any thoughts along these lines would be appreciated.

  3. I walked through the casino many times but never played. It was pretty busy almost always.

We used the specialty dining 3 times.

The place that was always filled the fastest was the Teppanyaki restaurant.

Most of the others didn't fill up except the last night.

I would book night 7 early in the cruise.

Thanks matj for the quick response. The reason I was asking is because we are part of the CET 7 star event group. There is supposed to be close to 500 of us on our cruise and I believe they had a similar size group on the cruise you just finished with. Most of us gamble so I figured the casino would be packed when open. I was concerned about specialty dinners b/c we all get a specialty dinner package that works out to be about 3 specialty dinners per person. With that sized group I figured the specialty dinners would all fill up fast. One of the specialty dinners I want to try is Moderno. Did you get a chance to try it and if so how was it?

  4. Just got off today.

The weather in New Orleans was about 70.

The first full day at sea was in the mid 80's.

Everyone was out in the sun..

Didn't really see any shows except a Second City improve, and part of a Magician/Illusionist show.

Anything else you would like answered?

How busy was the Casino? Was there any trouble booking the specialty restaurants? We will be on the Dawn 12/7.

  5. Thank you Sadiecat for the positive comment. It looks like a great place to get breakfast in the morning. Nothing against buffets, but I tend to eat too much when we go there.

Thank you froggitt for providing a menu to look at. Looks like they have everything that I was hoping they would except for pizza. I guess I will have to pay the $5 and have one send to the room if my pizza cravings get too bad.

  6. Thanks for the responses everyone. I was hoping they would be more favorable but I guess it is what it is. I am not a big chicken wing eater. I was hoping Blue Lagoon would be a place to grab a hamburger, or a decent sandwich, or a slice or 2 of pizza. Or a place to go and grab an ice cream sundae.

  7. I have looked but cannot find a menu for the Blue Lagoon. We are going to be on the NCL Dawn in a couple of weeks and are planning on eating there a couple of times. Would anyone care to give their opinions of what the food is like there? Do they have a separate menu for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late night? We have never eaten at the Blue Lagoon before and would love to hear about recent experiences others have had there. And if anyone could post a link to Blue Lagoon's current menu that would be awesome.

  8. We did a CET cruise a couple of years ago with RCL Oasis of the Seas. I think they are going to maintain their relationship with NCL but I think you will see them stick their toe in the water with RCL from time to time to make sure they get the best deal possible for themselves because of the shear volume of free cruises they give away in an effort to promote increased play at their casinos.

If they do decide to make a more decisive move to RCL I think we will know next spring when they roll out the changes to their rewards programs. Until then we will all have to wait and see.

  9. Its good to know that there is a great likelihood of having movies to watch while on the Dawn both on TV in the cabin and in lounge/public setting as well. With as much other stuff as there is to do, probably won't watch too many unless they have something playing that is really good that we have not seen before.

  10. Thanks VV, DG, and BAS. We cruise on the Dawn in 31 days. We both really enjoy a good movie. One of the cruises we took, can't remember which one, had movies on the TV but you never knew when they came on. In any case we hope the Dawn has some movies and they have an easy way of finding out when and where they will be showing so we can plan accordingly.

  11. Just off the Dawn last Friday,

The Blue Lagoon is not a very loud venue or even very occupied during the hours you might want to sleep...

I would not base my decision on the Blue Lagoon, I would consider location on deck, stairs, crew only doors and crew only hallway would be more of a concern for me.

Thanks for the response. Since the Blue Lagoon is directly below us, at least we won't be hearing people stomping around as we would if they were directly above us. I guess if it gets too noisy, I can put on my noise cancellation headphones or get up and go join them.

  12. Has anyone stayed in this cabin before? It appears to have a great location. Mid ship balcony and it seems to be fairly close to stairs and elevators. My only concerns are that it is across from the internet cafe and the Blue Lagoon Rest. ( open 24 hours ) is directly below. Any thoughts?

  13. I am really enjoying this thread. We have a cruise coming up the 1st part of December. In the past, I too have been guilty of over indulgence when taking a cruise. I agree with everyone that pointed out that will power is the key. This upcoming cruise is going to be a challenge for me as we have unlimited drinks anywhere on the ship. We also have specialty dinners included as part of our package.

I know it will not be easy, but I am going to try to limit my beverages to lite beers and crown and diet coke type drinks. I am going to stay away from fruity drinks such as daqueri's that are packed full of carbs. I am going to employ a similar strategy for eating as well.

For breakfast I will load up on bacon, sausage, eggs and omelettes and avoid everything else. No breads, no cereals, no pancakes,no pastries, etc. This is the way I am used to eating breakfast anyway so I do not see much of a problem.

For lunch and dinner I will eat meats, salads, and whatever green vegetables are available. No breads, no potatoes, no desserts. If I do consume any starches I will be sure to keep them to a minimum.

This will be my first attempt to maintain the low carb approach while taking a cruise. The thing I like about eating this way you can eat as much meat, eggs, cheeses, salads, and green vegetables as you want and it keeps your cravings for breads and desserts in check. Wish me luck. When we have been going out to eat with family and friends this approach has been working for me and I hope it can continue on this upcoming cruise.
