  1. This thread has been really educational; thanks for doing it and providing so much detail. I did a land trip to Sydney / NZ Fjordland / Great Barrier Reef last year, and I've often wondered if I would enjoy cruising the same area. I now know that I'd find cruising that itinerary too frustrating; I'd want to be on land in NZ enjoying all the tremendous hiking. But it's great to have options that work for all.

I did a day cruise of the Milford Sound after finishing the 4-day Milford Track hike earlier this year. It was sunny that day, so it's interesting to see it in clouds. I'm guessing Mitre Peak was shrouded and not visible on your trip.

  2. I was in one of these rooms a few months ago, and they're great. Very roomy, especially by Majesty standards. The "obstruction" - if you can even call it that - is minimal; only your view looking down is partially blocked. Your horizontal view isn't obstructed at all. I was in a more aft cabin, so I can't definitively say this is true for all cabins in this category, but I'm pretty sure that's the case.

Well worth it and I wouldn't hesitate booking it again.

  3. it's tough travelling with 3 kids and an 87 year old dad. Catching a flight to London and then taking a taxi to the port with heavy luggage is no joke. It would help if on a 2 week cruise in the Med one could wash some clothes. I don't think anyone likes to wear the same t-shirt twice. We all know how hot it gets in the Med.

Sorry to be blunt, but if it's that big a deal to you, then this question would've been better posed as part of your research prior to you booking.

  5. Hi G Money,

We did the Danube cruise 2 years ago on the Amadeus Symphony. It was quite a difference from the usual ocean cruise but we liked the fact that we were "up close and personal" with all the towns along the way, you usually dock right in town and just have to step off the boat. Tours were small and several cuts above the usual "cattle call" cruise line tour. Guides were excellent. We will do another riverboat cruise for sure. Be sure to go to the opera in Vienna and Budapest. The Statsoper in Vienna was Grand but the opera house in Budapest was grander. I hope you are lucky enough to be entertained on board bu the Aphrodites in Bratslava. A really pleasant surprise. Most entertainment was not great. They were world class entertainers and not hard on the eyes, for sure.

    Have fun!

    Jim

Jim - Really glad to hear this. I will be sure to check it out further. If it doesn't work out for Egypt, then maybe somewhere else!

  6. Patrick,

Now that is strange. It isn't there. They just changed ships to the Sun Goddess and it is possible that they are redoing that section of the website. Here is a link to the Egypt page, but when you click on the actual tour, there is an error. http://www.amadeuswaterways.com/destinations.asp?dest=egypt

This cruise was made through a group tour operator that we met on a British Isles/Norwegian Fjords cruise. They did book it directly through Amadeus. I did just book a Danube Cruise directly through Amadeus a couple weeks ago. am sure the site will be back up again for Egypt.

Thanks for the info. I will do some more hunting. This looks like a good option. I will be interested to hear how your Danube cruise goes.

  7. For those of us who enjoy the Elemis products that Steiner uses and sells in RCI shipboard spas, some of their products are now available in some Nordstroms stores and at www.nordstrombeauty.com.

Of course you can get items taxfree on board, and there is always www.timetospa.com, which is the official site for Elemis, La Theremie and other Steiner products...
