  1. We were directly across from the laundry on a Crystal cruise and were worried about the same issues.  There were no problems and in fact we liked it because I could just cross the hallway and iron something if I wanted.  Cruisers just put their wash in and leave.  We never heard a sound for the 16 day cruise.

We just booked our 3rd VO cruise today. This conundrum provides me additional incentive to do our own thing ashore or to book private excursions.

It behoves Viking to remedy this as it won’t improve itself especially with increasing demands on their systems as they add more ships and cruise itineraries.

Personally I would prefer alcohol included rather than tours. We usually cruise with Crystal.  Tours and restaurant reservations can be made once the cruise is paid in full. We don’t need the Silver pkg but it will be annoying to produce a card or whatever when we want an extra drink.

  3.  I think a new system is necessary to accommodate reserving shore excursions. Today was  “my day to reserve.”  The site crashed for 45 minutes. I  think a semi luxury cruise line should find a more civilized  system regardless of category.

  4. Would anyone have a sample copy of the Daily Newletter for days in port. I would like to see what it is like if you choose not to go ashore.  We are going on the Eastern Seaboard Cruise in late September.  We were wondering if you don't take a scheduled excursion are the ships near enough to town to walk around oneself.Gaspe, Halifax, Seguanay, Boston.

I don't think you will find it a bad thing as long as you don't get hurt feelings over a few special cocktail parties.  In all honesty, we would have loved for some of the grouchy fellow passengers on the Inaugural to be replaced by some enthusiastic "segmenters".🍸

We’ll be fine!  Probably just overthinking!  Since this is our first Viking.

Unfortunately, you have to expect that those staying aboard for 4+ months will be treated a bit differently than those booking a two week or so segment.  Had you paid all that money would you not expect the same?  The Inaugural World Cruise was a complete sellout as a WC.  Very rare, in fact I have never seen another line do that.  All other line's World Cruises sell segments too.  I believe you will find all their full world cruisers get extra benefits as well.  The only way to avoid this is never book a segment of a world cruise.  Sorry, but there it is.

    Thanks. At least I’m prepared.

  7. I just found out that we are booked on a segment of a world cruise  One poster said they felt left out. There were special events etc that were specifically for world cruisers.  They ,also, said that they had access to excursions and dining arrangements and made it It difficult finding any prime times.  I hope this is not true since this is my first Viking Ocean Cruise.

I am currently on Orion from Tokyo to Vancouver and I fully empathize with you - it’s a rotten situation, especially for the embarking passengers.

You may remember that I gave my theory elsewhere why I think this happened and I too blame Viking for poor planning.

If it’s any consolation, I think you will be pleased with your onboard experience - we are so far. Not quite ready to jump from Oceania yet but pleased well enough.

Hope things will go smoothly for you after your embarkation 🙂

PS If you feel adventurous you might think about renting a car during one of those 4 pre-cruise days and drive along the beautiful coast to Squamish or even Whistler - an easy and scenic drive.

We usually sail with Crystal or Oceania. Will we be disappointed?  I know we can’t compare them but I do hope we enjoy ourselves.
